All you need to know about the Goa street circuit
The Goa street circuit is located at Headland Sada, Bogda, Goa, and it is 3.2 kilometres long. The street circuit features 12 corners and meets the FIA 4 Grade 4 standard, and the layout features a mix of tight turns – especially in the initial section – followed by a series of straights that would allow spectators of the race to see plenty of high-speed action. The Goa street circuit is the third street racing venue for RPPL (Racing Promotions Private Ltd. – which runs the IRF), following Chennai and Hyderabad. Akhilesh Reddy, chairman and managing director, RPPL, explained that the time taken to transform a public road into a street circuit is normally around three to three and a half months, but they need to accomplish this in Goa in almost half the time. Post the races, it will take 15 to 20 days to remove all the infrastructure required for a street circuit, but the public can make use of the road right from the next day without any hindrance. Reddy also added that they are looking forward to a spectator capacity of 10,000 to 12,000 people at the circuit, and they are also trying to include some standing stands, which could bump up the total spectator capacity to around 15,000 to 20,000 people.
Commenting on the announcement of the Goa Street Race, Pramod Samant, chief minister of Goa said, “The Goa Street Circuit will be South Asia’s first oceanfront racetrack, a milestone that will firmly establish Goa on the global sporting map. The event will boost tourism, create employment, and inspire our youth to explore careers in engineering, technology, and event management. I want to acknowledge the expertise of Racing Promotions Pvt. Ltd., the role of the Entertainment Society of Goa, and the cooperation of our government departments, all of whom are working together to ensure this event meets the highest global standards. This is part of our larger vision to position Goa as a hub for international events – capable, confident, and ready to host the world.” Akhilesh Reddy added to this by saying, “Goa’s rich heritage, dynamic culture, and stunning coastline provide an iconic stage for a motorsport property of global significance.” Round 4 of the Indian Racing Festival will be taking place in Goa on November 1-2.
