Registrations for Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA 2020 are open
Registrations for the 13th edition of the Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA 2020 are open and the last day for registration is June 22, 2019. The Virtual BAJA will be held on July 12 and 13 at the Chitkara University Chandigarh.
BAJA 1 (mBAJA and eBAJA) will be held from January 23 to 26, 2020 in NATRiP Pithampur. BAJA 2 (mBAJA) will be held from March 6 to 8, 2020 at Punjab.
To participate in the event, engineering colleges must create a team of 25 out of 50 SAEINDIA student members in their SAEINDIA collegiate club.
Each team has to create a Buggy – an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) which will have to meet certain requirements and pass a technical inspection to be able to compete in the final endurance race. The students have to design and fit the buggy with the best suspension, steering and braking components. They should also meet the target weight of under 125kg. The ATV should also have a strong roll-cage, taking into consideration the New Product Development (NDP) cycle along with quality and safety.
The competition is expecting 400 registrations this year after seeing 363 teams register for the 12th edition of the event.
THE Virtual BAJA is a qualifier for BAJA SAEINDIA 2020. All the teams participating for eBAJA and mBAJA alike have to clear the Virtual BAJA event to be eligible to proceed to the main event. The applicants will be judged on their knowledge of the rule book, the concept of their buggy, the project plan and the design approach taken, CAE analysis, the Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Validation Plan (DVP), the online test, the presentation, the extempore and the viva sessions. This will be held on July 12 and 13 at the Chitkara University, Chandigarh.
eBAJA has the same set of tests for the buggy. The only difference between the eBAJA and mBAJA is that the eBAJA buggy’s use electric motors over internal combustion engines.
Many students are seeing the potential and future of EV’s and are participating in the eBAJA competition. To support and facilitate the growth of electric mobility, SAEINDIA will be giving a Rs 50,000 stipend to every new eBAJA team.
