2019 Honda Civic revealed ahead of launch in India

The second generation Honda Amaze was launched in May and the CR-V diesel will be launched in October. The all-new Civic will be the next big launch for the company in India and Honda has introduced the facelifted Civic for the USA market. This is the model that will be introduced in the Indian market early next year. Here are some of the highlights of the new generation Civic, which was first showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017:

  1. The Civic now gets an all-new unibody platform, which uses light weight, high tensile strength materials.
  2. The new Civic will be offered in petrol and diesel powertrains. The 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine will make its way under the hood of the new Civic. This is the same engine that does the duty in the yet-to-be-launched CR-V. The diesel engine in the CR-V makes 118bhp and 300Nm and comes mated to a 9-speed CVT.
  3. Transmission options will be 6-speed manual and CVT.
  4. The new generation Civic’s chassis is 16kg lighter than the outgoing model. Torsional rigidity has gone up by 23 per cent and the overall weight is down by 16 per cent.
  5. The new Civic gets an all new suspension set up and relocated fuel tank.
  6. On the inside, you get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system Android Auto and Apple Car Play.
  7. Honda has opted for a piano black strip on the front grille, ditching the chrome option seen on the model shown at the Auto Expo earlier this year. Chrome bezels surrounding the fog lamps and new alloy wheels are a part of the facelift.
  8. Expect the India bound Civic to get a host of driver aids and safety features.
  9. The Civic will go up against the Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis. Expect the petrol powered Civic to be priced between Rs 15-17 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 17-20 lakh for the diesel variant.
