Skoda rolls out 5,00,000th third generation Superb

A milestone for the Skoda Superb

The 500,000th third-generation of the Skoda Superb rolled off the production line in Kvasiny, Czech Republic on Friday, March 22. The latest generation Superb has been the company’s flagship since 2015 and has been doing well internationally as well as in the Indian market.

In total, 1.25 million units of the company’s top model have left the assembly line since 2001. In 2019, the Superb will start the second half of its model cycle with a comprehensive upgrade and a new plug-in-hybrid version. Although, there’s no official word from Skoda India yet if this hybrid version will be available in our country. Out of the half a million Superb models that were produced since 2015, 358,200 of were made in the company’s Kvasiny plant alone. The rest were made in Aurangabad, Nanjing (China), Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan) and Solomonovo (Ukraine).

Powering the Skoda Superb

In India the Skoda Superb is offered in petrol automatic and manual variants as well as a diesel automatic. The 1.8 TSI unit makes 177bhp and 320Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox as well as a 6-speed manual. There’s a 2.0L diesel engine on offer which makes 174bhp and 350Nm of torque. The range starts at Rs 25.99 lakh, ex showroom India and the more luxurious Laurin and Klement variants cost Rs 30.99 lakh and Rs 33.49 lakh for the petrol and diesel variants.
