One of the features we tend to take for granted in modern cars is Apple CarPlay connectivity, and the next generation of the tech is here in the form of Apple CarPlay Ultra. The infotainment will be making its debut on Aston Martin’s new vehicles being ordered in the USA and Canada. Apple CarPlay Ultra will also be available for existing models that feature the brand’s next-gen infotainment system, via a software update in the coming weeks. CarPlay Ultra works with iPhone 12 or later models, which run the iOS 18.5 operating system or newer versions.

CarPlay Ultra will build on the existing capabilities of the infotainment system and it will be deeply integrated with the vehicle. For instance, the system will help provide information for all of the driver’s screens, which includes real-time content and gauges in the instrument cluster. CarPlay Ultra will closely follow each OE manufacturers’ design language and will uphold their brand identity. That said, users will have an abundance of customisation options on offer to make CarPlay Ultra a canvas for their individuality. Users will also be able to show information from their iPhone, like maps and media, along with information that comes from the car, such as advanced driver assistance systems and tire pressure, right in the instrument cluster. One will be able to interact with the infotainment system either by using the onscreen controls, physical buttons or the Siri voice assistant to manage standard vehicle functions such as climate control, as well as vehicle-specific systems features. Apple has put a special emphasis on tightening the integration between Apple staples such as maps, music and Siri with crucial driving infographics like the speedometer, tachometer and even ADAS menus to make sure that it provides a unique variant of CarPlay Ultra that is tailor-made to match every car brand’s design philosophy.

While it is initially being introduced in the USA and Canada only, the launch of Apple CarPlay Ultra will be expanded to include all global markets within the next 12 months. And while Aston Martin’s models such as the DBX, the Vantage, the DB12 and the Vanquish will be equipped with Apple CarPlay Ultra, carmakers such as Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are also gearing up to offer the tech in their vehicles.
