AtherGrids for EVs

Bengaluru based start-up Ather Energy is going all guns blazing with the introduction of 30 charging outlets in the city of Bengaluru to cater for both two wheelers and cars. The number of charging stations will reach 60 by the end of this year and this will be the largest charging infrastructure in the country when it becomes operational. The charging stations will be located strategically at malls, cafes, restaurants, tech parks, multiplexes and gyms in the city. AtherGrid will be free for the next six months to all EV owners.  With the help of its App customers can find nearest charging point and monitor charge status remotely. The app also gets payment options.

Charging concerns

Ather Energy is focusing on the charging experience, which is a smart move to eliminate any concerns of charging issues in the mind of prospective buyers. Charging stations are designed such that the power will be drawn only when the EV is connected and it also has an auto power cut-off feature. The body of the S340 is IP55 rated to be used in any weather conditions.

Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy on AtherGrid

On the launch of their charging infrastructure, Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy said, “Electric vehicles cannot become a viable alternative without making charging infrastructure availability a greater priority. It is critical for us to make public charging convenient and accessible. This is an important step towards increased adoption and acceptance of electric vehicles and in the long run will have a positive effect on the cost of the vehicles themselves. The number of entrepreneurs and businesses that have come aboard to be a part of AtherGrid is also a testament to the future of electric vehicles. As we prepare ourselves for the launch of the Ather S340, Bangalore was a natural choice to be the home city for AtherGrid. Range anxiety and the inconvenience associated with charging will not be a deterrent to adoption, as the industry grows.”

Unlike other companies which are just rolling out their electric two wheelers, Ather Energy is smartly laying the foundations for its vehicle sales by implementing necessary charging infrastructure before launching their product, the Ather S340 next month.
