Auto Expo 2016: Fiat launches Jeep India website

Fiat India has launched the Jeep website as a precursur to the brand’s formal entry into India. The website clearly shows the three cars Jeep will be launching in 2016 – Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee and its hot version, the SRT Grand Cherokee. Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India, said, “It gives us immense pride to launch this iconic Jeep brand in India. Today, FCA embarks on a new expedition in the Indian market and we hope this significant milestone will help us to firmly establish Jeep in India right from the start.”
Apart from the website, they have also developed their own pages on other digital platforms – such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.  We’ve driven the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee way back in 2013 when Fiat was initially planning to introduce the brand in India. At the time, Fiat was getting its house in order and so the launch was pushed forward indefinitely.
Flynn said the company will introduce the Jeep brand in India soon via import route. Fiat Chrysler, the parent of the brand, is planning to make India a hub for a low-cost right-hand SUV under Jeep brand, which could cost you around Rs 15 lakh. However, this SUV will be launched in the second quarter of 2017. Till then you have three SUVs to choose from.
The Wrangler Unlimited has four bolt-on doors and a removable roof, a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine good for 197bhp and a mechanical four-wheel drive setup. A ladder frame chassis and both live axles make the Wrangler a rugged and capable off-roader.The Grand Cherokee is for the sophisticated Jeep buyer. It employs a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel mill sending 237bhp to all four wheels via a 8-speed automatic gearbox. There are a lot more creature comforts than the Wrangler and there’s ample space on the inside of this five-seater. The Grand Cherokee’s hot version, the SRT Cherokee will also come to India. This Mercedes GL AMG competitor has a 6.4-litre HEMI V-8 under the hood developing 470bhp and 630Nm. It gets the necessary go-faster modifications including Bilstein adaptive dampers and retuned Selec-Track system for its various driving modes.
