Every rider in Pune knows the feeling of a pothole arriving without warning. Ather Energy now wants to turn that frustration into useful data. The electric scooter maker has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to share road impediment data from its Pothole+ Alerts technology, helping the civic body identify damaged stretches and decide where repairs are needed first.

Through its Pothole+ Alerts initiative, Ather aims to use connected fleet data to help identify damaged road stretches and support better road maintenance.

Ather Pothole+ Alerts Explained

Pothole+ Alerts runs on data generated by Ather’s connected scooters as they travel on everyday routes. By combining road-related inputs from its fleet, the technology identifies road impediments and alerts riders to rough stretches ahead. Powered by AtherStack 7, it gives proactive warnings during navigation and suggests smoother routes, so riders can anticipate the road before and during a journey.

Ather Energy and PMC Partnership

Under the MoU, Ather will share agreed data on potholes, broken road patches and uneven stretches with PMC. The civic body can use it to locate problem areas, prioritise repairs and plan targeted interventions. Tracking these impediments over time will also help PMC spot recurring trouble areas that may need further assessment. The fleet insights will work alongside on-ground assessments rather than replace them.

Ravneet S. Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, calls it an important step towards using connected technology to contribute to “safer roads and more effective urban infrastructure planning.” Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, IAS, says the data will be an additional input for identifying stretches that need attention.

Ather Pothole+ Alerts Availability

The MoU sets up a one-year framework for collaboration focused on sharing agreed road impediment data in Pune. Ather has not announced any pricing, as this is a data partnership rather than a new product launch.

Ather designs and manufactures electric scooters, and its portfolio currently has three product lines: the 450 series, Rizta and Konarc, with 15 variants in total. It was also the first two-wheeler maker in India to set up a dedicated fast-charging network, Ather Grid.
