BMW Motorrad launches the new M 1000 R in India

Think of the BMW M 1000 R as an BMW S 1000 RR that has kicked off its fairing, and decided it wants to ride on the street as much as on the track. The roadster gets a few aesthetic changes on the outside with new headlights, aerodynamics and an optional M Competition package. Price is set at ₹33.55 lakh, with the M competition package costing approximately ₹4 lakh extra.




BMW M 1000 R design

The M 1000 R looks like it is in attack mode even when it is parked. The new twin LED headlights give it a sharp, almost angry face, while the wide handlebars and exposed engine shout naked streetfighter from every angle. Those winglets on the sides generate a downforce of 11kg at 220kmph. For the new model year, the rear frame and swingarm are finished in Platinum Grey metallic across all colour options.

BMW M 1000 R features

The new BMW M 1000 R features a 6.5-inch TFT display with an M-specific start-up animation, a revamped rev counter, and an OBD interface for GPS data logging. The standard amenities include a lightweight M battery, rear USB charging, LED lighting with adaptive turning lights, cruise control, and heated grips. Performance can be managed via several riding modes: Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race, and the customisable Race Pro 1-3. These modes, supported by a 6-axis sensor, allow riders to fine-tune throttle response, engine braking, traction control, wheelie control, and ABS Pro to their specific skill level. BMW M 1000 R engine and performance

At the heart sits a familiar 999cc, four‑cylinder engine from the BMW S 1000 RR. It makes a massive 207bhp at 13,750rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,100rpm. The new M 1000 R sprints from 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds and can bring about a maximum speed of 280kmph. It also gets BMW’s ShiftCam technology, which enhances low to mid-range torque acceleration. Revised components include optimised camshafts, lightweight and narrow cam followers, titanium valves and an exhaust side spring assembly. Additionally, the intake features shorter funnels to improve air-fuel charge exchange at higher RPMs.




M Competition Package

Get the M Competition package and the bike turns up the aggressiveness. It’s available with Blackstorm Metallic / M Motorsport or White Aluminium Metallic Matt. The optional M Competition package elevates the bike with M Carbon wheels, M GPS-Laptrigger, and extensive M Carbon parts (covers for the front and rear wheel, chain, tank, airbox, and sprocket). It also includes the M pillion package, backseat shroud, and adjustable milled rider footrests.

BMW M 1000 R prices and rivals

The M 1000 R is priced at ₹33.55 lakh (ex-showroom) as it is a Completely Built Unit (CBU), imported from Germany. The optional M Competition package costs an additional ₹4 lakh. The BMW M 1000 R rivals the likes of the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S, the Kawasaki Z H2, the Aprilia Tuono V4 and the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS.
