BMW Motorrad has unveiled the F 450 RR, a lightweight supersport for the 48 hp A2 licence class, and it joins the F 450 GS and F 450 R in the new F 450 family.

BMW F 450 RR design and ergonomics

The F 450 RR takes its look from the S 1000 RR, with a low nose, a high tail, along with the signature RR flyline running from the headlight to the slim tail section. It features a unique design with winglets, asymmetrical side fairing panels, and gills on the right side only.

The RR comes in three colours. Cosmic Black is used on the Base variant, Racing Red on the Sport, and Snaefell white / M Motorsport on both M Sport variants, which also get a white frame and rim stickers. Notably, colours are tied to the variant.

The standard two-piece seat sits at 790 mm. BMW’s accessory catalogue offers a high Sport seat and a low seat option, which provide a range of 775 mm to 810 mm. The F 450 RR features clip-on handlebars that are mounted directly to a forged-aluminium triple clamp, and the 14-litre fuel tank is shaped for optimum knee grip. The gear lever, brake lever and side stand are all made from forged aluminium, with the shift pattern being reversible for track use.

Standard equipment includes full LED lighting, a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, a USB-C port and heated grips.

BMW F 450 RR chassis and suspension

The frame is a welded tubular steel space frame that uses the engine as a stressed member. The bike weighs in at 177 kg ready to ride, or 178 kg with the Easy Ride Clutch. Suspension is from KYB, with a 43 mm upside-down fork at the front and a monoshock strut mounted to the hollow-cast aluminium swingarm at the rear.

Both ends get 140 mm of travel. The rear shock has adjustable preload and rebound damping. The Sport suspension, fitted on the Sport and both M Sport variants, adds adjustable rebound and compression damping on the fork as well.

Braking duties are handled by a Brembo four-piston monobloc calliper on a 310 mm front disc and a ByBre single-piston floating calliper on a 240 mm rear disc. The 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels are wrapped in 110/70 and 150/60 tyres front and rear, respectively.

BMW F 450 RR engine and performance

Powering the F 450 RR is the 420 cc parallel-twin first seen on the F 450 GS and then the F 450 R. It has a compression ratio of 13:1 and makes 47.3bhp at 8,750 rpm and 43Nm at 6,750 rpm. BMW claims 80 per cent of peak torque is available at 3,000 rpm.

BMW has offset the crankpins by 135 degrees, giving the engine uneven firing intervals, and uses a balance shaft to keep vibrations in check. Magnesium clutch and gearbox covers help keep weight down, along with the integrated underfloor exhaust.

BMW claims a 0-100 kmph time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 177 kmph

BMW claims a 0-100 kmph time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 177 kmph. Power goes through a six-speed gearbox, with Shift Assistant Pro, which allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts, comes on every variant except the Base and can be retrofitted to it.

The optional Easy Ride Clutch is a centrifugal unit that engages with engine speed. Paired with Shift Assistant Pro, it allows clutch-less riding and shifting, though the lever stays fitted. ERC is standard on the M Sport Innovation trim and can be retrofitted to the other variant and BMW claims that doing so will increase the weight of the motorcycle by 1kg.

ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and engine drag torque control are standard, along with Rain, Road and Race riding modes. The M Sport variants add Riding Modes Pro and its configurable Race Pro mode.

BMW F 450 RR pricing and availability

BMW has yet to reveal a timeline for the Indian launch of the BMW F 450 RR, but it is likely to arrive in showrooms sometime next year in 2027. All three bikes, including the F 450 GS, F 450 R and F 450 RR, are being manufactured locally by TVS in India at its plant in Hosur.
