Hero Motocorp launches the Xtreme 160R at Rs 99,950
Hero Motocorp has launched the new Xtreme 160R across the country in two variants, starting at Rs 99,950 for the front disc only variant and Rs 1,03,500 for the front and rear disc variant (prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The Xtreme 160R has been designed and developed completely in-house at the brand’s R&D hub - the Center of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where it was unveiled in February this year. The Xtreme 160R counts the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj Pulsar NS160 as its main rivals. The Xtreme 160R can be had in a choice of three paint schemes – Pearl Silver White, Vibrant Blue and Sports Red – and deliveries for the bike are already in progress.
Let us first start with the main attraction: the engine. The Xtreme 160R employs a 160cc fuel-injected air-cooled BS6-compliant engine delivering 15bhp @ 8500 RPM. This engine, combined with the light 138.5kg kerb weight means the 160R can hit 60kmph from standstill in a competent 4.7 seconds.
Next, the lightweight rigid diamond frame setup coupled with the 37mm right-side-up forks and a 7-step adjustable mono-shock at the rear offers exceptional handling , says Hero, making the Xtreme 160R a corner happy machine at the same time. And reining in the power is a 276mm petal disc up front, with the option of a 220mm petal disc at the rear.
But that’s not all, as the new Xtreme 160R is paired with a first-in-segment all LED package, from a full LED headlight with LED DRLs, to LED indicators with hazard switch and the signature H-shaped LED taillight. Also on offer is a fully digital LCD display with negative illumination, and the first-in-segment side-stand engine cut off which ensures the Xtreme 160R is both technologically advanced and safe.
Speaking on the launch of the Xtreme 160R and its commencement of deliveries, Naveen Chauhan, head, sales, aftersales and parts, Hero MotoCorp, said, “Ever since the Xtreme 160R was showcased at the Hero World 2020 event, we have been getting a very high number of requests for its commercial launch. The initial response for the motorcycle has been very positive and we already have inquiries to match the dispatches. We are confident that the Xtreme 160R will help us in scaling-up our presence in the segment.”
Speaking about the Xtreme 160R – and the Hero Motocorp brand in general – Malo Le Masson, head, global product planning, Hero MotoCorp, said “The Hero Xtreme 160R is a real head-turner, cat like agility with power to weight ratio of a street racer, and tech-loaded with segment first features like the all LED package. This modern street fighter is targeting to win the urban race. With this latest model, we are now offering a compelling and competitive line-up of premium motorcycles, from Street Naked to Sport with the Xtreme 200S, from Adventure with XPulse 200 to casual Touring with the XPulse 200T.”
