Kawasaki brings the Z900, its middle-weight naked bike to India

The Kawasaki Z900, a global model known for its reliability and sportiness for the daily, is now in India. At the starting price of ₹9.52 lakh (ex-showroom), it is a well kitted out machine that has all the performance one can enjoy in the streets. Is it exciting enough for the middle-weight naked segment?

The Z900 is powered by a liquid-cooled, in-line four engine that produces a cool 123.29bhp of power at 9,500rpm and 98.6Nm of torque at 7,700rpm, that sips fuel from a 17-litre tank. A six-speed gearbox is accompanied by assist and slipper clutch for fast shifts. It also gets Kawasaki’s patented tech that helps riders find neutral without accidentally putting the bike in gear. Additionally, it comes equipped with a bi-direction Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS), Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), electronic cruise control as well as dual-channel ABS. This Kawasaki is a low-slung middle-weight naked bike with a ground clearance of 145mm. Suspension duties are handled by a USD fork and horizontal back-link, gas-charged shock. That gives it 120mm and 140mm of wheel travel, respectively.

At a kerb weight of 213kg, this is a light bike thanks to the lightweight trellis frame and dual 300mm front disc brakes paired with dual radial-mounted opposed 4-piston calipers and a 250mm disc brake at the rear. The 17-inch star-pattern (five-spoke) alloy wheels also contribute to the weight savings. The bike will come installed with Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tyres from the factory. A 5-inch TFT colour screen sits above the single-piece handlebar which is loaded with the Rideology app that enables turn-by-turn navigation on the Z900.

On the design front, the Z900 follows the Sugomi philosophy that gives this naked motorcycle a ‘crouching stance’ with a low-lying head and an upswung tail. Kawasaki has given it a triple LED head light with an LED tail light. It will be made available in two colours which Kawasaki calls ‘Metallic Matte Graphene Steel Gray / Metallic Flat Spark Black / Candy Flat Blazed Green’ and ‘Metallic Carbon Gray / Metallic Graphite Gray / Candy Persimmon Red.’

The prices for MY25 Kawasaki Z900 start from ₹9.52 lakh (ex-showroom), at that price it will have rivals such as Triumph Street Triple 765 R which starts from ₹10.17 lakh (ex-showroom) and Honda CB650R, starting from ₹9.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries for the Z900 will start from the first week of June, 2025 says Kawasaki India.
