The new Street Triple RS now gets aggressive LED headlights,an updated cluster, more power and torque as well as a redesigned exhaust
Triumph has unveiled the new, for 2020, Street Triple RS. The new RS’ 765cc triple engine is, in essence, the Moto2 engine, and gets a significant increase in torque, at 79Nm at 9,350rpm, as well as more power, at 121bhp at 11,750rpm. And that’s not all, as Triumph claims a seven per cent reduction in rotational inertia, which, combined with the increase in torque across the rev range, delivers a notable improvement in immediacy.
The changes to the engine also include a new exhaust cam which Triumph says is optimised for more mid-range performance, and lowered inertia on the crank shaft, clutch and balancer, together reducing engine mass. The silencer has also been restyled for the 2020 model, to be more sporty and compact, with a beautiful carbon fibre finisher with Triumph badge branding. Triumph claims the new exhaust balance pipe smoothens the torque curve for more usable torque from low down and across the entire rev range.
Visually too, the new headlights on the Street Triple RS give it a more aggressive look. We imagine that this is a continuation of the design philosophy that Triumph had adopted back in 2013, when the rounded headlights were replaced for a more angular ‘fox-eye’ shape. Complementing the aggressive-looking headlights is the all new bodywork, which is more angular and sporty. The new fly screen and air intake are now more pronounced, plus the side panels, rear unit, seat cowl and belly pan are all new and distinctly different (or closer in visual cues to the Daytone 765, if you’re suitably inclined).
Additionally, there’s enhanced detailing across the whole motorcycle, with new contemporary mirrors, a new branded handlebar clamp, blacked out control plates and rear footrest hangers, plus satin metal heel guards and silencer finish.
Moving to the gadgetry the new Street Triple RS now features a TFT system that comes with the MyTriumph connectivity system software installed and enabled, ready to be used with the accessory-fit Bluetooth module. This enables GoPro interaction, turn-by-turn navigation and phone and music operation, displayed on the TFT screen.
There is no word about a launch date for the 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS, however, we expect it’ll be here in the first half of 2020. The upgraded engine and updated looks will now make it more of a competition for the Yamaha MT-09, Kawasaki Z900, Monster 821 and the recently-launched KTM 790 Duke.
