Powertrain

The RTR 160 4V retains the 159.7cc oil-cooled SOHC engine with four valves per cylinder making 17bhp at 9250rpm and 14.7Nm at 7250rpm through a 5-speed gearbox. Output varies based on the choice of riding mode between Urban, Rain, and Sport. Sport mode uses the full power output of 17bhp and allows a top speed of 114kmph, while Rain and Urban Modes limit the engine to 15.4bhp and allow 103kmph.

Chassis and dimensions

The biggest update on the new RTR 160 4V’s double cradle chassis is the 2kg weight reduction from the 146kg of the outgoing model. Fuel tank capacity is 12 litres. The bike measures 2035mm long with a wheelbase of 1357mm and ground clearance of 180mm. Seat height is at an even 800mm. The front and rear 17-inch alloys are suspended by a telescopic fork in the front and a monoshock at the rear. Stopping power comes from a 270mm disc at the front and a new 240mm rear disc, which is 40mm larger than on the outgoing model. The RTR 160 4V also features dual-channel ABS on the disc brake variants.

Features

The RTR 160 4V gets full LED lighting with a DRL headlamp, and a full digital cluster. The SmartXonnect helmet-mounted bluetooth communications device features voice assist. Three riding modes change the power delivery and ABS calibration, and the GTT (Glide Through Technology) ensures that the rider can get the bike moving by releasing the clutch without throttle input, making heavy traffic easy to navigate.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has been launched at an ex-showroom (Tamil Nadu) price of Rs 1,34,990, and will compete against the likes of the Honda Hornet 2.0 and Hero Xtreme 160R 4V.
