BMW 8 Series Convertibles for 2019 – The 840d and the M850i xDrive

BMW has launched a convertible version of their 840d and M850i xDrive for 2019. Both the convertibles have a roof that can open and close in 15 seconds flat. The 840d is powered by a six-cylinder diesel motor while the M 850i gets a bigger petrol V8 under the hood.

The BMW 840d is powered by a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, inline diesel motor that makes 315bhp and 680Nm of peak torque. The motor is mated to an eight speed ‘Steptronic’ transmission and power is fed to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive intelligent awd system. The car can sprint to 100kmph in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 250kmph.

The BMW M850i xDrive on the other hand has a bigger, more powerful 4.4-litre, V8 petrol motor that belts out 522bhp and 750Nm of torque fed to all four corners. The motor is mated to the same eight sped ‘Steptronic’ transmission. Having 200 more horses under the hood, the M850i xDrive sprints to 100kmph in only 3.9 seconds.

The design cues and body structure have been picked from their manic and sharp looking BMW 8 Series Coupe, BMW M8 and BMW M8 GTE endurance racer. It is also equipped with adaptive M suspension, Integral Active Steering, along with M Sport differential with electronically controlled differential lock at the rear axle.

The M Sport package is also available as an option for the BMW 840d xDrive Convertible, the add-ons as listed below:

  • Front apron with extra-large air intakes
  • Distinctive side skirt and rear apron design
  • 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, M Sport braking system
