2020 Hyundai i30 N-line teased – new i30 N to follow

Hyundai India showcased the i30N Fastback at the Auto Expo 2020. The i30 facelift, for the European market was teased ahead of its Geneva debut

Hyundai India just showcased some of its N brand cars at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2020, along with the i30N Fastback that has drawn rave reviews in Europe. Hyundai are planning to launch the N brand in India and in all likelihood, the brand will debut with the i30N Fastback, and that is where this facelift is of interest to us in India as this is the car that will hearld Hyundai's high-performance brand in India.

This is the car that will hearld Hyundai's high-performance brand in India.

In Europe, the refreshed Hyundai i30 is a mid-size hatchback that rivals the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and SEAT Leon. The current-generation model has been on sale since 2016 and as well as being an affordable family hatchback, it also forms the basis for one of our favourite hot hatchbacks on sale, the excellent i30 N.

The car in this image is not the i30 N though, rather the i30 N-line, which despite its lower status in the range, has in the past been identically styled to the full-fat N model. Building on the same body, the new i30 will receive a sharper new grille shape that complements LED headlights with a bold new DRL signature.

The rear end will also have a fresh look with new tail lights and a new bumper, while new wheels will be available in 16-, 17- and 18-inch sizes. The hot i30 N models will maintain the dual-outlet exhaust and faux diffuser, and combine their own bespoke set of 19-inch wheels with the gentle exterior refresh.

One of the Hyundai i30’s weak points has been its basic interior, one that is looking particularly aged compared to those of the new Golf and SEAT Leon. To help lift it, Hyundai has confirmed the new i30 will pack a comprehensive tech update, comprised of a new digital dial set (how original) and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen display mounted atop the dash.

The next i30 N will be available with a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission alongside the previous six-speed manual

Mechanical changes remain unknown at this stage, although we know that the next i30 N will be available with a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission alongside the previous six-speed manual.

Also confirmed for the standard models is the availability of the sportier N-Line trim on the i30 Estate, and the standard fitment of the sportier trim level on all i30 Fastback models. More details will be disclosed closer to its reveal, but the i30 N models will not be shown until later in 2020, with sales to follow.
