As the BMW X2 steps into its second generation, it takes on an SUV Coupe body style and gets bolder while at it. Going with the times, BMW will also launch the X2’s all-electric sibling, the iX2, which follows the same design language, but packs in a lot performance to top the range.

BMW X2 & iX2 Styling

The SUV Coupe gets LED lights at the front and the back. The kidney grille isn’t as polarising as on some of the other models, but the smooth edges have given way for a hexagonal shape now. On the sides, you have a very strong shoulder line, adding to the bold appeal of the SUV. On the back is a Gurney-style spoiler that sits just under the rear windshield. Look further down, and you’ll spot quad exhaust tips, but only on the M Sport models. The package can be equipped on all the variants, as well as on the iX2, sans the tips.

The M Sport package is not just about the exhausts though. With that, this SUV gets more aerodynamic body parts, an M rear spoiler, and an M Sport braking system. Talking of add-ons, these can be had with wheels ranging from 17- 21 inches.

On the inside, the SUV comes equipped with two-zone automatic climate control, BMW iDrive with OS9, and a sport leather steering wheel. There are four USB C ports for all the passengers and a 12V socket in the centre console and the boot. Making the cabin feel super spacious is a big wide panoramic sunroof.

BMW X2 Engines

The BMW X2 will be available with three engine options. The sDrive20i is a mild-hybrid. It’s powered by a 1.5-litre twin-turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The powertrain’s combined output is 168bhp and 280Nm. The X2 also gets a 148bhp, 360Nm, 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine. And for all the performance enthusiasts is the M35i xDrive variant which gets a 296bhp, 400Nm, 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that sends power to all four wheels. The X2 M35i accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 5.4s, making it the fastest of the X2 variants.

BMW iX2 Powertrain

The new BMW iX2 has dual electric motors, which make 309bhp and 494Nm. While the iX2 is more powerful than the X2 M35i, the EV does the 0 to 100kmph sprint in a slightly slower 5.6 seconds, indicating an easier tune in the interest of better efficiency. The BMW iX2 gets a 64.7kWh battery pack that gives it a WLTP-claimed range of up to 449km. The BMW iX2 can be charged from 10 to 80% in 29 minutes using a 130kW DC fast charger. Standard charging takes 6.5 hours for a full charge using an 11kW wall box.

BMW X2 & iX2 Rivals

The BMW X2 goes up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q2, Volvo XC40, and the Lexus NX. Whereas the iX2 rivals the likes of the Volvo C40 Recharge.

BMW X2 & iX2 India Launch

The BMW X2 should make its way to India in 2024. The iX2 is slated to be launched internationally in March 2024, It’s unclear if the SUV Coupe will be launched in India for now, but going by the popularity of premium electric SUVs, the iX2 should definitely be under consideration.
