Kia launches the 2024 Sonet with fresh styling and over 25 safety features and over 70 connectivity features

The Kia Sonet gets an update for 2024 featuring fresh new styling. It also gets small mechanical changes like the addition of rear disc brakes, but keeps its three engine options and pairs them up with six gearbox options. Its trump card lies in its extensive technology package which includes over 25 safety features of which 10 are ADAS Level 1, and over 70 connectivity features, the most interesting one being its ability to recognise ‘Hinglish’ voice commands.

2024 Kia Sonet powertrain

The 2024 Kia Sonet gets three familiar engine options – a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated diesel. The 1.2-litre petrol is available with a single 5-speed manual transmission option. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol gets two transmission options in an iMT and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel is available with a 6-speed manual transmission, 6-speed iMT, and a 6-speed automatic transmission (AT).

2024 Kia Sonet exterior 

The 2024 Kia Sonet gets extensive styling updates. The redesign includes a new grille and new front and rear bumper designs incorporating new LED headlamps and taillamps. Also new is a 16-inch crystal-cut alloy wheel design. Several variants are on offer featuring aesthetic differences both inside and out, with some trims getting matte paint, black interior trim, and black upholstery with red stitching.

2024 Kia Sonet safety features

The 2024 Kia Sonet gets 25 safety features, 15 of which are Hi-Safety features and 10 are ADAS-based including front collision warning and lane keep assist. However, ADAS features are limited to the exclusively camera-reliant ADAS Level 1 and are only available on the top-of-the-line variants. Standard safety features across all variants include 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and vehicle stability management (VSM).

2024 Kia Sonet technology and convenience

The 2024 Kia Sonet gets over 70 connectivity features, including Find My Car, a  surround view monitor which gives the driver a view of the car’s immediate vicinity, and a voice command function that recognises ‘Hinglish.’ For passenger comfort, the Sonet gets sunshades for the rear windows and all power windows with one-touch automatic up/down. The Sonet also has LED ambient lighting, touchscreen navigation, and two 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and centre console.

2024 Kia Sonet price and rivals

The 2024 Sonet also offers a wide range of engine, gearbox and trim options. The range starts from the 1.2-litre petrol which costs from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 9.89 lakh ex-showroom. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol costs from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 14.69 lakh ex-showroom for the top-end X-line variant equipped with the 7-speed DCT. The 1.5-litre diesel is the most expensive engine on offer, starting at Rs 9.79 lakh but going up to Rs 15.69 lakh ex-showroom for the top-end 6-speed AT-equipped X-line.

The 2024 Kia Sonet update comes soon after the Tata Nexon’s facelift (Rs 8.09 lakh ex-showroom), which it will undercut by approximately Rs 10,000. Another key rival is stablemate Hyundai Venue, which is priced slightly under the Sonet at a starting price of Rs 7.94 lakh ex-showroom. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza starts at a higher Rs 8.29 lakh ex-showroom but has a significant disadvantage when it comes to features and technology.
