Audi India, on their social media handles, confirmed that the S5 Sportback will make a comeback into the Indian market soon

Audi India has confirmed that its sporty sedan, the S5 Sportback, will be launched in India soon. The Audi S5 Sportback is the brand’s bridge between the tame, mellow A5 and the wild RS5. The S5 Sportback is likely to go up against the newly launched BMW M340i.

Globally, the S5 Sportback gets two engine options — TDI and TFSI. The TDI unit on the S5 Sportback is Audi’s most powerful diesel engine ever, a 3-litre, V6 turbo-diesel that delivers 342bhp and 700Nm of torque. The TDI is also assisted by a 48V mild hybrid system. The S5 Sportback TDI does the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.9 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 250kmph.

However, what's relevant to India is the 3-litre, six-cylinder TFSI unit. It makes 345bhp and 500Nm of torque, is 0.4 seconds quicker to reach the 100kmph mark and unlike the TDI, it is assisted by a smaller 12V mild hybrid system. Both the engine options are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission with the all-wheel-drive quattro as standard.

It would be great to have both the engine options on offer when it is launched in India but it is more likely that Audi will launch only the S5 Sportback TFSI as it hasn’t brought in a TDI to India for quite some time now.

On the inside, the S5 Sportback comes with all the bells and whistles you’d expect. It has a 10.1-inch digital infotainment system with features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, voice control, and Bluetooth connectivity. It is also equipped with a 12.3-inch digital cockpit, blind-spot monitoring, built-in navigation, passive entry, a wireless smartphone charging pad, leather upholstery, massaging front seats and front and rear automated emergency braking as standard.

The India-bound S5 Sportback will arrive as a CBU and it goes on to show the demand and competitiveness in the luxury sports sedan segment. Follow our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter handles and watch this space for more updates on the S5 Sportback’s India launch.
