BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine to launch in India on Jan 21

The long wheelbase version of the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine will be launched in India on January 21, 2021 and will rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class L. The Gran Limousine made its Asia debut around mid 2019, and is now set to make its debut in India as well.

Although we do not have a lot of information on the specifications and what upgrades the LWB 3 Series is getting in India, we can tell you what other countries have got. It will be 110mm longer than the standard 3 Series and since it is more focused on comfort, we expect major improvements to the interiors. The overall exterior design will stay in line with the current standard 3 Series’ new design language, and hence it seems logical that it will come with 18-inch alloys and LED headlights. The longer wheelbase means that the 3 Series GL will have longer rear doors for better ingress and egress, increased leg space and BMW even claim that it will be the longest sedan in its segment. The interiors usually change from country to country but we expect the driver and the front passenger to not see much difference. Like on the one launched in China, the rear seats may get redesigned headrests, better cushioning and model-specific mood lighting. The standard BMW 3 Series is priced between Rs 42.30 lakh and Rs 49.30 lakh and we expect the GL’s prices to be slightly higher. For now, it looks like we have to wait till January 21st to find out more.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class L is the only other long wheelbase sedan on offer in India and it will be the BMW 3 Series GL’s main rival. Although it is a niche market, the LWB sedans might become the next big thing as both brands offer the prospect of better luxury than their standard wheelbase iterations, despite not carrying a huge difference in the price.
