Citroen’s premium sub-brand takes wraps off new all-electric coupe-SUV
The DS Aero Sport Lounge is a full five metres in length and has a dual-tone colour scheme with the black bonnet meeting the front grille. Well, if you can call it a grille that is. The portion of the car that normally houses the grille has been replaced with a screen that houses an illuminated DS logo. On either side, the concept gets matrix LED projector headlights with daytime running lights that have adjustable intensity. The coupe-like roofline helps in reducing the drag by directing the flow of air from the front through the wheel wells.
The design director of DS automobiles Theirry Metroz says, “For this concept car, which is a prelude to our next creations, we have opted for solutions that are avant-garde and high technology in which the purely technical element is concealed for the benefit of the beauty. In the cockpit, we have chosen to work with unexpected materials, handcrafted with simple, pure lines, expressing a new kind of tranquillity.”
All the interiors are in line with the company’s philosophy ‘Future Craft’. The dashboard and the back of the seats are clad with straw marquetry that is the work of a Parisian craftsman. In the vehicle a fabric technique of plaited three material microfibers is used, it has multiple strands within it allowing ambient light to enter the cabin for a more natural feel. In terms of the features, the Aero Sport Lounge comes with tiny ultrasound speakers that produce little sound waves which make you feel like you are touching invisible three-dimensional objects mid-air without you ever having touched anything.
DS automobiles have been participating in Formula E right from the very first season, giving them plenty of expertise in electric drivetrains. The Aero Sport Lounge has 0-100kmph acceleration time of just 2.8 seconds and has a 500kW electric motor linked with a 100kWh battery, with the battery located in the floor. The vehicle can achieve more than 650km on a single charge, as promised by the company.
The Aero Sport Lounge will complement DS automobiles’ present line-up that consists of the DS 7 Sportback and the DS 3. We are not sure which of the features of the Aero Sport Lounge will make it into a production car or whether they will move forward with this concept in its entirety.
