Ferrari tease their upcoming SUV, likely to be named the Purosangue

Ferrari has released the first official teaser of their upcoming SUV that will rival the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne and Aston Martin DBX

It’s really happening! After all the rumours and the innuendos, Ferrari has for the first time officially given us a view of their upcoming SUV, which is rumoured to be named the ‘Purosangue’. Purosangue means thoroughbred in Italian, which shows how seriously Ferrari wants to project this as an SUV with pure Ferrari DNA coursing through it.

The teaser picture shows little but the front fascia of the SUV, which seems to have taken a lot of design cues from the Ferrari Roma coupe. It has big air dams which show how performance-oriented this SUV is going to be.

Ferrari hasn't revealed any technical details for the car, but from what is speculated, we know that the Purosangue will be based on the same platform as other front-engined Ferraris, such as the Ferrari 812 Superfast and the Ferrari Roma. The Purosangue will follow Ferrari's recent strategy of hybridisation, and the choice of engine is expected to be the same 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged hybrid V6 seen on the Ferrari 296GTB that produces 645bhp of power and 740Nm of torque, with further electrification from the hybrid part of the power unit a likely outcome. Owing to the platform that the SUV is on, it is also possible that Ferrari will at some point shove a V8 or even a V12 into the Purosangue.

The Ferrari Purosangue will compete with the Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX, among other high-performance SUVs. Seeing as how successful the Cayenne and Urus, in particular, have been for their respective brands, it was inevitable that we would see a Ferrari SUV soon too. Ferrari may be late to the SUV game, but given how it has projected the typical Ferrari character of the SUV, expect nothing less than one of the most performance-oriented luxury SUVs out there.
