Mahindra showcases the Global Pik Up Concept based on Scorpio-N

The successor to the Scorpio Getaway will almost certainly go into production

At its Futurescape event in Cape Town, South Africa, Mahindra showcased the Global Pik Up Concept. The much-anticipated follow-up to the Scorpio Getaway, the Global Pik Up Concept is essentially the pickup truck version of the Scorpio-N. While currently in the conceptual stage, a definite production version is on the horizon, with plans for sale in international markets.

Mahindra Global Pik Up Concept Design

The Mahindra Global Pik Up Concept has been designed in house at the Mahindra India Design Studio, which has done well to transform the Scorpio-N into a pickup truck. The front end is not unlike the Mahindra Scorpio-N, but with the addition of concept car flourishes like an offroad bumper with a built-in winch and a smart-looking snorkel. The bodywork beyond the B-pillar is unique to the Global Pik Up Concept, and the pickup truck bed has been well integrated with the rest of the vehicle. The tailgate appears to open downward and features the Mahindra name proudly embossed on it. Underpinning the Global Pik Up Concept is a new-gen ladder frame platform featuring Mahindra's intelligent 4Xplore four-wheel-drive system for true "GO FAR'' ability in Mahindra speak.

Mahindra Global Pik Up Concept Technology

The Global Pik Up Concept will be a professional as well as a recreational vehicle, and to that end, Mahindra has engineered the pickup to be as versatile as can be. The cargo bed looks large, and Mahindra claims it has a commendable towing capacity. Mahindra also says the interior has been designed with comfort in mind, featuring luxurious touches and a spacious layout. Safety is a core focus for the Global Pik Up Concept, and Mahindra has targeted a 5-star safety rating for the production version. To achieve said target, the pickup will come equipped with level-2 ADAS, trailer sway mitigation, all-around airbag protection, and drowsy driver detection at launch.

Although Mahindra has not yet disclosed a specific timeline for introducing the Global Pik Up, its eventual launch appears quite certain given Mahindra's international launch strategy. The Global Pik Up will be launched in phases, starting with existing markets, including South Africa, ANZ, Africa, MENA, and SCA countries. ASEAN markets will also receive the Global Pik Up in due course. If it is launched in India, the Global Pik Up will compete with other lifestyle pickup trucks like the Isuzu D-Max and the Toyota Hilux.
