Nissan India has announced the start of production of the all-new Nissan Magnite at its plant in Oragadam, Chennai and revealed a 20-grade line-up. The compact SUV will be offered in four trims and two engine options.

The first one being the 1-litre B4D naturally aspirated petrol engine with 5-speed manual transmission which produces 71bhp and 96Nm of torque(also spotted under the hood of the Kwid) and a 1-litre HRA0 turbo-petrol engine with 5-speed manual & CVT transmission which produces 98bhp and 160Nm of torque in the manual and 152Nm of torque in the CVT option. Interestingly, the HRA0 engine is claimed to deliver higher torque at a lower speed, adopting the ‘mirror bore cylinder coating’; a technology from sportscars such as the Nissan GT-R.

The Magnite, with its overall length of 3994mm, has a boot space of 336L and the rear seats even have a 60:40 split option. It stands tall with a ground clearance of 205mm which is impressive compared to its rivals. The NA petrol variant weighs in at just 939kg, making it one of the lightest compact SUVs. The turbocharged petrols weigh at 1014kg and 1039kg for the manual and auto variants, respectively.

Now let’s talk about the four variants that’ll be offered on the Magnite:

XE: will come with standard 16-inch wheels, skid plates, functional roof rails, 3.5-inch LCD cluster, all-power windows and dual tone interiors.

XL: gets 6 speakers for integrated audio, steering wheel audio control, automatic AC and electrically adjustable & foldable outside mirrors.

XV Upper: 16-inch diamond cut alloys, LED daytime running lamps (DRL) and fog lamps, 8-inch floating touch screen (with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), 7-inch TFT meter, voice recognition, rear-view camera and push-button start.

XV Premium: is packed with features such as the LED bi-projector headlamps, Cruise Control, 360-degree Around View Monitor, tire pressure monitor and full sporty interiors.

Customers can also opt for the Tech Pack which includes wireless charger, air purifier, ambient mood lighting, puddle lamps and high-end speakers from JBL

Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, commented: “The start of production of the all-new Nissan Magnite is a proud moment for all of us. With an array of first-in-class and best-in-segment features, each grade walk has been curated to meet the aspirations of the discerning Indian customer. In line with Nissan’s philosophy of continuous innovation to deliver enriching experiences, Nissan’s renowned technologies are provided at every grade, including the X-TRONIC CVT, Cruise Control, 360-degree Around View Monitor and Nissan Connect.”

The compact-SUV segment has grown exponentially over the last few years owing to the best of both worlds solution between a hatchback and an SUV. With the all-new Nissan Magnite, things are looking up for Nissan India and as for the buyers, there is nothing like too many good options, right?
