Scoop: Mini Countryman petrol could launch in the second half of 2026
Missed the non-JCW, petrol-powered Mini Countryman? You won’t have to wait much longer.

Mini is set to bring the internal combustion version of its latest Countryman to India in the second half of 2026, offering buyers an alternative to the all-electric model already on sale.
Mini Countryman petrol engine options
There is no word on the engine options that will be available with it. Globally, the Countryman petrol is offered with a range of turbocharged engines. In India, the BMW X1 sDrive 18i xLine already gets the 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 132bhp and 230Nm, with power sent to the front wheels only. This should serve as the most accessible variant in the range, balancing performance with efficiency. Could we also get the 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in two states of tune? That remains to be seen.
Mini Countryman petrol as an alternative to EV
With the Mini Countryman Electric already available, the petrol Countryman will broaden the model’s appeal in India. While the EV focuses on silent performance and zero emissions, the petrol variants promise a more traditional driving experience, quicker refuelling, and potentially greater flexibility for long-distance travel.
Mini Countryman petrol or EV?
The arrival of the petrol-powered Countryman gives buyers a clear choice: ICE or EV. The question is, which one would you go for?
