Mercedes-Benz has launched the latest generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB in India, and prices for the luxury sedan start from ₹78.5 lakh. The E-Class goes up against the likes of the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6. With the generational update, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class now gets more tech on the inside, more space and fresher styling to take on the competition.
The 2024 E-Class gets a new face with a new design for the LED headlamps and the 3-pointed star sitting in the grille. Move to the side and you will notice the 18-inch alloy wheels. The E-Class is now 14mm longer than before, with the wheelbase itself being 15mm longer – which means there is more space on the inside. The luxury sedan also gets flush door handles along with soft-close doors. The tail lamps get three-pointed star elements, and overall, the styling of the E-Class is handsome with plenty of road presence.
On the inside of the E-Class, you get Mercedes’ Superscreen on the dashboard with three distinct screens — the floating 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a massive 14.4-inch infotainment screen, and a 12.3-inch passenger display. These screens run the latest version of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment. With the Routines feature, you can programme the car to do certain things. For example, you can automate the window rolling down when you reach your office building so that you can punch in when you enter. The screen also supports Microsoft 360 apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and a camera on the dash also supports video calls. The features list includes a 4D Burmester audio system and four-zone climate control, along with digital air vents that can be adjusted from the screen.
At the rear, you get a three-seat bench with an armrest, and space is very generous for the rear seat occupants. The front seat position can also be controlled from the backseat itself, allowing the passenger to free up even more space than there already is. The recline angle of the seat can be adjusted too, from 26 degrees to 36 degrees. You get soft neck pillows and controls for the electric blinds. The armrest gets storage along with USB ports, a wireless phone charging tray and cup holders.
The E-Class can be had with the choice of either a petrol or a diesel engine. The 2-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 201bhp and 320Nm of torque. The 2-litre turbo-diesel engine produces 194bhp and 440Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 48V mild-hybrid system that adds 23bhp and 205Nm on demand for brief periods of boost, and power is sent to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the E-Class also gets a E450 4MATIC variant with a more powerful in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine that produces 375bhp and can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 4.5 seconds.
Prices for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class start from ₹78.5 lakh for the petrol-engined E200 variant, while the diesel-engined E220d is priced at ₹81.5 lakh. The more powerful E450 4MATIC petrol variant of the E-Class is priced at ₹92.5 lakh. All prices are introductory and the E-Class goes up against the likes of rivals like the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6.
