2026 BMW 7 Series unveiled with updated design, Neue Klasse tech and multiple powertrain options
BMW’s flagship sedan updated with new design, new interior and up to 728km electric range

The new BMW 7 Series, now in its seventh generation, has received one of its biggest updates in terms of interior, while the exterior too has been revised, keeping in line with the current BMW design language. The powertrain portfolio includes mild-hybrid engines, plug-in hybrids and a range of fully electric i7 variants offering up to 728km of claimed range. A new digital interface is also included, along with multiple AI features. The latest 7 Series continues to position itself against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and Lexus LS, while also taking on emerging electric luxury sedans.
2026 BMW 7 Series design
The exterior sees a design revision with updated vertical kidney grilles featuring surround illumination like before, and paired with even slimmer LED headlamps that give the new 7 Series a very sharp look.
The sides continue to have an almost monolithic design, while the rear has been updated with new bumpers and redesigned taillights. BMW continues to offer extensive personalisation through its Individual programme, with options like dual-tone paints, along with M Sport variants that further set the performance variants apart. Wheel options now include 22-inch wheels as standard instead of the 20-inch options earlier.
2026 BMW 7 Series interior and features
The 7 Series adopts an all-new interior architecture that adds technology from the Neue Klasse series while continuing with premium materials and features that we associate with a 7 Series model. The cabin introduces a redesigned steering wheel and new display configuration, which includes BMW’s Panoramic iDrive end-to-end display, and a wide central screen and passenger display as standard. For the rear occupants, the Theatre Screen continues as an option and supports 8K streaming and third-party apps.
A new Operating System X has been added and supports OTA updates and even an enhanced voice assistant with Alexa integration. ADAS suite now incorporates AI-based parking and manoeuvring functionality along with hands-free driving rated for speeds up to 140kmph.
2026 BMW 7 Series powertrain and chassis
The new 7 Series continues with a wide range of powertrain options, including mild-hybrid diesel and petrol options, plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants. The mild-hybrid line-up includes 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines producing 395bhp and 580Nm, and 309bhp and 570Nm respectively.
Plug-in hybrid variants develop up to 604bhp, with performance figures including a 0-100kmph time of 4.2 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph. These models offer an electric-only driving range of up to 82km.
On the electric side of the lineup, the i7 variants bring sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology. The top-end variant features a 112.4kWh battery pack producing 671bhp and 1100Nm, enabling a 0-100kmph sprint in 3.8 seconds. Claimed WLTP range for the i7 line-up lies between 686km and 728km, depending on the variant.
Chassis hardware includes standard adaptive air suspension as standard, with optional extras such as Integral Active Steering and active roll stabilisation, which BMW claims makes the 7 Series more comfortable and agile.
2026 BMW 7 Series price and rivals
BMW has confirmed that the new 7 Series will enter production at its Dingolfing facility, with a global market launch scheduled for July 2026. Pricing details are yet to be announced for international markets, including India.
Once launched, the 7 Series will continue to rival other flagship luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and Lexus LS, while also competing with high-end electric luxury offerings as the segment steadily transitions towards electrification.
