Lexus introduces its first BEV for India, ES 500e launched at ₹89.9 lakh!

The 8th-generation ES 500e is Lexus' first BEV offering for India
Lexus India launches the 8th-generation ES 500e at ₹89.9 lakh, introduced as a CBU. The ES 500e is built on the TNGA GA-K platform, and is the first electric product from the brand in India. Being a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), it packs a 74.68kWh battery, and is said to deliver 580km ARAI certified range. The other big highlight is the dual-motor setup which makes the 500e an all-wheel-drive offering, with an output of 338bhp. Here’s a breakdown of what this Lexus BEV is all about.

The latest ES carries a sharper silhouette with a more chiseled Spindle-shape styling. There are L-signature lamps at the front and back. The tail also gets a connected lightbar with illuminated Lexus lettering. It rolls on 21-inch wheels, sporting a wheelbase of 2950mm and is 1920mm wide. Lexus has increased the ground clearance by 20mm for India. The ES 500e is available in five paint options – White Nova, Sonic Titanium, Graphite Black, Sonic Copper, and Sou.

On the inside, you’re greeted with a minimalist yet luxuriant scenery. It gets 3D-printed bamboo trim with a new surface illuminated door trim for static and dynamic ambient lighting. Lexus is following a less is more approach (for the buttons). There’s a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 14-inch central infotainment screen. It also offers a 17-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system. It gets powered, cooled and heated seats as well as an electronically adjustable inside rear view mirror. Additionally, it is armed with a suite of Level 2 ADAS features.

It is available with a single battery size, which is 74.68kWh Lithium-ion pack. Lexus claims that it is capable of delivering a range of 580km – as certified by ARAI. On the performance front, this ES BEV is driven by dual motors which enable AWD. Lexus claims an output of 338bhp and does a 0 to 100kmph sprint in 5.5 seconds.

The ES 500e has been launched in India at ₹89.9 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes knocking on the door of rivals such as BYD Seal, priced from ₹41 lakh; Tesla Model Y, range starts from 59.89 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom). Lexus India has confirmed the arrival of the ES 350h (hybrid variant) in the not so distant future.
