Volkswagen India showcased the new Taigun with revised styling and tech upgrades; prices remain TBA

It was in September, 2021 when Volkswagen India had introduced the Taigun, its first mid-size SUV offering in India, which was fresh off the heels of the Skoda Kushaq launch in July of the same year, that marked the debut of the MQB A0 IN platform in India. Cut to 2026, and again VW is back with the Taigun’s first facelift right after the new and updated Kushaq. This revised model gets illuminated logos, panoramic sunroof, auto-levelling headlights, new paint options and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Here’s a look at what’s new.

2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift design

The Taigun receives a new face with a sleeker front grille, bringing in more of the body colour and is now complemented with a light band and illuminated VW logo. In profile, it stays faithful to the original styling, save for the new 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels. The tail also remains unchanged, but gets a rear illuminated logo alongside sequential turn indicators with welcome and goodbye animation protocols. The Taigun has always been a handsome-looking mid-size SUV, and this update elevates the refinement of the same VW ethos. Two new exterior paint options have also been introduced – Avocado Pearl and Steel Grey to the existing palette of seven shades, such as Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Deep Black Pearl, Lava Blue, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel and Carbon Steel Matte.

In the cabin, the highlights are the updated 10.1-inch central infotainment screen, which gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 15 new onboard apps and a new voice assistant powered by Google Automotive AI, which unlocks various voice command-based functions. There’s also a new 10.25-inch digital cluster, which now supports turn-by-turn navigation. As for comfort, it has front ventilated seats and a 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. The said seats feature ‘Storm Grey’ leatherette upholstery with black piping and grey contrast stitching – exclusive to the Topline trim. The lower trims get fabric upholstered seats. The GT Plus Chrome variant gets ;Storm Grey’ leatherette upholstery with red piping, stitching and red ‘GT’ embroidery on the front seats. The GT Plus Sport trim brings ‘Soul Black’ leatherette seats with red piping and stitching. Additionally, it is now equipped with a panoramic sunroof available from Topline trim and onwards – the outgoing model only had a single-pane sunroof. It continues to have a 5-star GNCAP safety rating.

2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift standard equipment

The new update brings a slew of standard kit which includes auto-levelling LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, six airbags, rear windshield wiper and rear defogger. All variants get the touch-based automatic AC unit. VW is also offering a ‘Car 4 Ever’ programme which includes a 4-year standard warranty, 4-year roadside assistance and 3 free services.

2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift engine and transmission

On the mechanical end, the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder variant now gets rear disc brakes, but the rest of the configuration remains the same, with a peak out of 147.5bhp and 250Nm of torque paired with a 7-speed DSG. The bigger engine also gets Active Cylinder Technology. However, the 1-litre, 3-cylinder variant produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque and is now mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift price and rivals

Volkswagen India is yet to reveal the pricing for the facelifted Taigun. Having said that, it may very well be in the same ballpark as its cousin, the 2026 Skoda Kushaq facelift, which is priced from ₹10.69 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the mid-size SUV segment continues to brim with more radically packaged offerings such as the 2026 Kia Seltos, priced from ₹10.99 lakh, the Tata Sierra, priced from ₹11.49 lakh, and the 2026 Renault Duster, priced from ₹10.49 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
