Concept Vision SXT, based on Mahindra’s new NU.IQ platform will compete in the global C-segment, launching by 2027
Evolution of the Thar.e, the Vision SXT is designed in the UK and Mumbai, crafted in the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV), and will be offered in ICE and EV powertrains
Mahindra has unveiled the Vision SXT concept at its Independence Day event, built on the new NU.IQ monocoque modular platform that supports both ICE and EV powertrains. A derivative of the Vision T and an evolution of the Thar.e, the Vision SXT features a pickup-like rear with a small load area and shares key design elements with its sibling. It’s a lifestyle SUV with all-terrain tyres, high ground clearance, and all-wheel drive, previewing an upcoming Thar family model likely to sit in the C-segment SUV space. Full specs aren’t revealed yet.
Mahindra unveils its Vision SXT concept along with three other Vision concepts that could enter series production after 2027. The Vision SXT, like the Vision T, is based on Mahindra’s new NU.IQ monocoque architecture, measuring around 4.3m in length, placing it on the larger end of the brand’s C-segment SUV spectrum.
Fresh off recent launches, Mahindra has shown its design and engineering direction at the 2025 Independence Day event, previewing future Thar family models. The Vision SXT is a pickup-style derivative with a 2,665mm wheelbase, which Mahindra claims provides class-best cabin space. Despite the long wheelbase, it boasts a tight 10.3m turning radius. Compared to the Hyundai Creta (2,610mm wheelbase), the SXT offers more interior volume.
Mahindra Vision SXT design
The Vision SXT features an upright, muscular stance, boxy body, and clamshell bonnet. Highlights include flared wheel arches, bold skid plates, and exposed bonnet hinges for practical engine or battery access. The rear load area, vertical tail lamps, and chunky fender design underscore its pickup credentials. Rugged styling, all-terrain tyres, and standout details echo Mahindra’s adventurous DNA.
The Mahindra Vision SXT platform and chassis
The Vision SXT is built on the NU.IQ platform, the Vision SXT accommodates both ICE and electric powertrains (FWD/AWD) and is engineered to meet global safety standards, targeting top crash safety ratings. The platform also features a flat floor for optimal cabin comfort and a modular layout to suit various body styles. The SXT is designed for both domestic and international markets, previewing Mahindra’s next-gen utility vehicles.
The concept demonstrates Mahindra’s ambition for globally competitive SUVs, with production versions likely retaining the bold, practical features seen in Vision SXT. Production is expected to begin post-2027, with ICE and EV powertrains planned.
