The BYD Denza Z is the brand’s latest supercar with four seats, a fridge and a top speed of 300kmph, while still not being a menace to drive daily

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026, BYD unveiled a new car that would give the engineers in Stuttgart and Maranello a serious dilemma. Meet the Denza Z: a four-seater supercar with numbers that would have sounded fictional a couple of years back. With Chinese carmakers not lagging behind anymore, the only question left is how long the West will pretend otherwise.

BYD Denza Z styling

The exterior of the car features a sleek dual-layer composite bodywork, with some carbonfibre mixed in. The design has been kept sporty while not being too aggressive. The streamlined hood is flanked by sharp and angular LED matrix headlights, which are complemented by the flared wheel arches. The rear end features four diamond-shaped taillights. The front end of the Coupe and Spider features an S-duct and functional vents for cooling and downforce. The Track edition gets a larger front intake, a carbonfibre front splitter, underfloor vortex generators and an optional three-stage adjustable rear wing for more downforce. BYD claims the Track edition will produce 1060kg of downforce at 349kmph. The Coupe and Spider will sit on standard Continental tyres, while the Track edition will feature the semi-slicks from Pirelli.

BYD Denza Z interior

On the inside, BYD has not crammed the interior with screens and has kept it simple with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen. The cabin, unlike most supercars, features a fridge built into the centre console and a 12-speaker sound system while having carbonfibre and Alcantara sprinkled throughout. Keeping with the driver-focused theme of the car, the steering wheel is equipped with buttons, knobs and paddles on the back. Both front seats are power adjustable, heated and ventilated; the rear seats can be folded down for more boot space. The Track edition can also be optioned without rear seats and with a half roll-cage instead.

BYD Denza Z battery and powertrain

The Denza Z is powered by BYD’s second-generation Blade battery pack, which is rated to 76kWh and supports up to 1500kW fast charging. BYD claims this helps it do 10 to 97 per cent in just nine minutes. To support this, BYD is rolling out its flash chargers across Europe, with around 3,000 stations planned. All three models, the Coupe, Spider and the Track version, make 1560bhp and 1240Nm of torque from three motors, one at the front and two at the rear. A fourth special edition is also expected later in the year, which will be specifically designed to chase Nürburgring Nordschleife lap records. It is expected to make 1,971bhp and target a sub 1.7-second 0-100kmph time.

The Coupe will do 0-100kmph in 2.25seconds, with the Spider slightly behind at 2.3seconds and the Track version taking the crown in just 1.96seconds. Boost mode can be activated from a button on the steering wheel that pushes the torque up by 30 per cent for 20 seconds. All models also get a drift mode and can make fake engine noises both on the inside and outside. The Coupe and Spider will both sit on air suspension with DiSus-M magnetorheological dampers, and the Track edition will feature a more Track-focused coil spring suspension setup.

BYD Denza Z pricing and rivals

The BYD Denza Z suggests the gap to Stuttgart and Maranello isn't closing, but in some respects, it's already closed. The entry Coupe starts from ₹1.8 crore, with the drop-top Spider going for ₹2.04 crore and the Track edition priced at ₹2.21 crore. All prices are exclusive of Indian taxes and duties. Orders in the UK and China for the Coupe and Spider are set to open from October 2026, with the Track edition orders to follow after. With rivals like the Yangwang U9 (1,287bhp), Ferrari Luce (1,035bhp), and Porsche Taycan Turbo S (938bhp), the Denza Z goes up against some established giants and the new kids on the block.
