Volvo EX90 Launched in India at ₹1.26 Crore
Volvo's flagship electric SUV brings three rows, a 106kWh battery and 450bhp to Indian roads
Volvo has launched the EX90 in India at an introductory price of ₹1.26 crore (ex-showroom). The flagship electric SUV arrives four years after its global debut, and it is also Volvo's first software defined vehicle in India. It carries forward everything the brand is known for, which is space, comfort and safety, now in a fully electric package.
The EX90 is not an XC90 with the engine removed. Underneath, it sits on Volvo's own electric platform called SPA2. It is just over five metres long at 5,037mm and weighs between 2,504kg and 2,712kg, so this is a really big car. It also comes to India as a CBU, which simply means it is imported fully built and not put together here.
It is sold in a single, fully loaded variant, and only as a six-seater with captain seats in the second row. The single motor version sold overseas will not be offered here in India.
Price, Offers and Deliveries
Bookings are open now. Customers who book before December 31, 2026 get the introductory price along with an 11kW wall box charger and a three-year service package. Volvo dealerships are also offering a 65 percent buyback after three years. Customer drives begin in November 2026, and deliveries start in January 2027. Volvo has also officially teased its all-electric luxury sedan, the ES90, at the launch.
Battery, Power and Range
Power comes from a 106kWh battery that feeds two motors, one on each axle, so all-wheel-drive comes as standard. Together they make 450bhp and 670Nm, and Volvo says the EX90 gets to 100kmph in 5.5 seconds. For an SUV this heavy, that is properly quick, and honestly more than most owners will ever need. The top speed is limited to 180kmph.
On range, Volvo claims up to 625km on a single charge on the European test and up to 725km on the Indian one. Real roads will give you less, and in our time with the car, around 500km looked like a sensible number with a mix of city and highway driving. When it is time to top up, Volvo says the EX90 can add up to 250km of range in just 10 minutes on a fast charger. It can also share its energy with other devices through bi directional charging.
Design and Styling
The EX90 gets its own bodywork, and no panels are shared with the XC90. The face is clean and understated, with a small body coloured panel in place of a grille. The headlights have a clever trick, as the daytime running lights move out of the way to reveal the projector lamps when needed. It rides on 21-inch wheels, and the flush door handles are easy to use, with a simple pull up movement. At the rear, vertical lights frame the glass for a minimal look. Buyers can choose from six colours: Denim Blue, Sand Dune, Mulberry Red, Crystal White, Onyx Black and Vapour Grey.
Cabin and Features
Inside, you will find backlit wood trim, ambient lighting and ventilated Nappa leather seats in a shade called Dawn. Air suspension and massage seats also come in the package. A large glass roof can switch from clear to opaque at the touch of a button, and it keeps the cabin cool when it is opaque. The rear seats fold electrically, which makes it easier to use the boot space, and getting into the third row is simple. That row is better suited to children than adults, especially on long drives. The second row is spacious and gets its own climate controls, with four zones across the cabin.
The centre of the dashboard has a 14.5-inch vertical touchscreen with Google built in, which includes Google Maps, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and gets regular software updates over the air. It is powered by NVIDIA and Qualcomm technology, along with a small driver display and a head up display. The sound system is from Bowers & Wilkins, with 25 speakers and 1610W of output, and it comes with Dolby Atmos and Abbey Road Studio modes.
Safety
Safety has been Volvo's biggest promise for decades, ever since it gave the world the three point seatbelt in 1959, and the EX90 is built to carry that reputation forward. Around the car, there are five cameras, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors that constantly keep an eye on what is happening on the road. These work with a 360-degree camera that has a 3D view, adaptive cruise control, Pilot Assist, Park Assist and collision avoidance to protect both the people inside and pedestrians outside.
Inside, occupant sensing technology and a driver monitoring system add another layer of protection, and the second row gets ISOFIX mounts for child seats. Volvo's idea is simple, the car should look out for everyone around it, whether they are inside or outside.
Rivals
At this size and price, the EX90 will take on the Mercedes Benz EQS SUV and the BMW iX. Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, called the launch a major milestone for the company's electric and software defined future.
