Global unveil of a new EV SUV: Skoda Epiq

Skoda unveils their new compact electric SUV - Epiq. It will be their most affordable EV

In the lush fields of Zurich, Switzerland, Skoda unveiled their newest addition to the electric car market - the Epiq. With dimensions similar to the Skoda Kushaq, the Epiq is built as a ground up EV and classifies as a compact SUV. It is built on Skoda’s new- generation MEB+ electric platform, which drives the front wheels and is lighter resulting in more efficiency. Here are all the details you need to know about the car.

Skoda Epiq design

The all-new Skoda Epiq follows Skoda’s new Modern Solid design with clean, minimal lines and a rigid stance. Its front features slim T-shaped headlights framing a glossy black Tech-Deck Face, plus vertical air intakes in the bumper; these front design cues will appear on future Skoda SUVs. The side shows a high shoulder line, wide lower body and roof rails, while the rear keeps the minimalist look with T-shaped taillights, Skoda lettering, and bumper details that echo in the front. Headlights and rear lights come in two LED versions, and there’s an optional LED Matrix front light with adaptive modes that prevent glare and suit different driving conditions.

The Epiq is aerodynamic, with a drag coefficient of 0.275, thanks to active cooling shutters, air curtains, wheel and underbody smoothing, a rear diffuser, roof spoiler and small fins that guide airflow and cut energy use. It measures 4,171mm long, 1,798mm wide, 1,581mm high, with a 2,601mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose between 17 to 19-inch wheels, six body colours (including Timiano Green), and an optional panoramic sunroof with a sunblind.

Skoda Epiq interiors and features

With 2,601mm wheelbase, it is only marginally lesser than the Kushaq’s (2651mm); but with better packaging possibilities of an EV, expect a fairly roomy cabin. It also gets a 475-litre boot plus a 25-litre frunk and over 28 litres of extra interior storage in door pockets, the centre armrest and glovebox. Interiors use only animal free and recycled materials: all textiles are 100% recycled polyester and leather is replaced by Techtona, a durable leather alternative, with more than 34 kg of recycled materials used overall. Trim levels offer different design packs, Studio (black/grey), Loft Grey and Loft Mint (with Techtona and ambient lighting), and the top Suite (Suedia and Techtona in Tabora Brown). Equipment packages add features like heated seats and steering wheel, keyless entry, wireless charging, LED Matrix lights, a Canton sound system, advanced Travel Assist and parking aids.

Skoda Epiq battery

The Skoda Epiq comes with two battery choices: 38.5 kWh gross (37.5 kWh net) lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) pack and a larger 55 kWh gross (51.5 kWh net) nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) pack. There are three power versions: the Epiq 35 with 114bhp, Epiq 40 with 133bhp, both using the smaller battery, giving about 310 km range and 150 kmph top speed with 267 Nm torque, and the range-topping Epiq 55 with 208bhp and 290 Nm on the larger battery, which does about 440 km and can fast-charge from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes. All use a permanent-magnet synchronous motor, support regenerative braking, coasting and an ECO assistant to improve efficiency.

The Epiq is the first Skoda on the new MEB+ platform, built for smaller, lighter batteries and front-wheel drive. It supports bidirectional charging (V2L, V2H, V2G) with a compatible wallbox so you can power devices, home or grid. The car has disc brakes all around, a MacPherson at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. It also offers one-pedal driving in B mode, letting you slow and recuperate energy by lifting off the accelerator for easier, more efficient city driving.

Skoda Epiq safety and technology

The Skoda Epiq comes with many driver-assist systems as standard, including Front Assist, Side Assist (with Rear Traffic Alert and Exit Warning), Lane Assist, Predictive Speed Limiter, Intelligent Speed Assist, and an upgraded Driver Alert that watches the driver’s eyes. Seven airbags are standard, including a centre airbag. Optional systems include Crossroad Assist (using corner radars to spot side traffic), Adaptive Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist.

Travel Assist 3.0 is available in the Travel Package and is Skoda’s most advanced assistance suite. It adds features like Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist, the ability to respond to traffic lights, and to bring the car to a stop when needed. The Premium Package adds Intelligent Park Assist with Trained Park and Remote Park Assist for easier parking.

The Epiq uses a new 13-inch Android-based infotainment system with updated graphics, app-style layout, and easy smartphone integration (Spotify, YouTube, Google Maps). The MySkoda app gives remote control over EV functions (remote charging, Plug & Charge after Powerpass setup, departure planner, remote climate control). Mobile digital key support (phone as key) is planned to arrive later this year for simple locking, unlocking and vehicle sharing.

Skoda’s official statement is that they are considering the car for the Indian market currently. Though, in our opinion, even after being the most affordable EV in their line-up, it is unlikely to make it to India any time soon considering its premium pricing compared to the EVs available in India.
