Honda Alpha named as Honda’s first Made in India electric SUV
Honda’s first electric SUV built in India will also be the first to wear the new H mark

Honda has announced the name of its first electric SUV built in India, and it is called the Honda Alpha. The car makes its global debut on December 2, with India being the first market in the world to get it. The Alpha will also be the first Honda in India to wear the new H mark that Honda has adopted globally for its automobile business. The H mark has represented Honda cars since 1963, and the company has now refreshed it to reflect how it is changing. The name Alpha meanwhile comes from the first letter of the Greek alphabet.
The Honda Alpha was first shown as a concept prototype at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. It is being developed as an SUV that blends with both urban and natural settings, and Honda describes the design as innovative and futuristic. The production car has not been shown yet, so the final styling will have to wait until the debut in December. The cabin of the Alpha is still under wraps but Honda has described the car as a mix of advanced technology and the joy of driving, but the interior, the screens and the equipment are all to be revealed.
Honda has not announced a battery, motor or range for the Honda Alpha, and there are no power or torque figures yet. What it has promised is the quality, reliability and joy of driving that the brand is known for. Toshiyuki Yanagisawa, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, said, “Honda Alpha represents our ambition to bring advanced electric mobility to our customers in India while delivering the quality, reliability and joy of driving that Honda is known for.”
Honda has not announced a price or a launch date for the Alpha but the company has said that the production car will go on sale in India and Japan in 2027. India will also be the global production base for the model in the future.
