Honda has flaged the off the pan-India test run for its upcoming electric SUV, the Honda Zero Alpha

Honda Cars India has flagged the first test run for its upcoming electric SUV, the Honda Zero Alpha (or Honda 0 α), in India, marking the start of India’s electric journey in India. The testing programme for the vehicle will include a wide range of Indian driving conditions as well as extreme weather conditions to evaluate the suitability and capability of Honda's all-new electric SUV to cope with Indian roads.

The Honda Zero Alpha was first showcased as a prototype at the Japan Mobility Show in 2025, which was also when the Japanese carmaker announced that it would be launching 10 new cars in India, 7 of which would be SUVs. The production version of the Zero Alpha will be introduced in global markets in FY 2026-2027, with India and Japan being among the key markets for the SUV. Honda also confirmed that the Zero Alpha will be manufactured in India and exported to global markets.

Commenting on the occasion, Takashi Nakajima, president and CEO, Honda Cars India, said, “The start of pan-India Public Road Verification testing is a key milestone in our electrification journey. India has unique driving and climate conditions, and it is important for us to test our electric vehicle thoroughly in real-world environments. This programme reflects Honda’s global engineering strengths combined with a strong focus on local customer needs, as we prepare to introduce an electric SUV that offers reliability, comfort, and ease of use.”
