Mahindra launches its first CNG SUV: XUV 3XO ZNG
Mahindra XUV 3XO comes in at ₹10 lakh with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with CNG

Mahindra has just launched its first mainstream CNG SUV, the XUV 3XO ZNG in India. It brings the same beloved traits of the XUV 3XO but with more affordable running costs.
Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG design
On the outside, not much has changed as it boasts the same boxy compact SUV silhouette of the XUV 3XO; the dimensions stay the same with a wheelbase of 2600mm and a length of 3990mm. The lower MX Edge and REVX Edge (O) variants get halogen projector headlamps with LED indicators and taillamps, whereas the AX5 and REVX A variants get LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs and infinity LED taillamps. Mahindra has installed NGV fast-filling valves, which it claims help refuel quicker.

On the inside, the cabin layout stays the same, with a 60:40 rear split seat, 6 airbags, remote keyless entry and cruise control all coming as standard. Higher-end variants also get access to push-button start, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a 6-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system along with leatherette seats. The twin-cylinder ZNG tanks are located beneath the rear boot and help maintain a boot space of 270-litres, with the spare wheel mounted to the underbody.
Higher-end variants receive a 10.2-inch infotainment screen with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, while lower variants get a 10.2-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto, while Apple CarPlay is wired.
Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG engine and performance
The XUV 3XO ZNG is powered by the same 1.2-litre mStallion, now with a remapped ECU and recalibrated turbocharger, producing 113bhp and 200Nm of torque on petrol and CNG. One notable exception is that, unlike the recent CNG launches available on the market, the XUV 3XO will only be available with a six-speed manual transmission, with no automatic gearbox available at launch.
The 1.2-litre turbocharged mStallion engine makes 113bhp and 200Nm of torque in both CNG and petrol fuel modes, thanks to a remapped ECU and recalibrated turbocharger
Mahindra claims the XUV 3XO can do 0-100kmph in 11.9 seconds, in both fuel modes. Mahindra also claims the engine has an efficiency of 24.7km per kg while on CNG. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on all four corners.
Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG pricing and rivals
The pricing for the XUV 3XO ZNG starts from ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹12.27 lakh (ex-showroom). In its segment, it is rivalled by the Nexon i-CNG and the Brezza S-CNG, which are priced at ₹9.57 lakh and ₹10.74 lakh, respectively. The 3XO ZNG, being Mahindra’s first foray into the segment, it will be interesting to see how it performs. Stay tuned for our first drive review
