Mahindra Thar OG launched, prices start at ₹10.32 lakh

Mahindra has launched a thoroughly updated version of the Mahindra Thar 3-door now named the Mahindra Thar OG and prices for the lifestyle SUV start from ₹10.32 lakh. The new SUV is based on the M_Glyde 4G platform and features extensive upgrades to the exterior as well as the mechanicals.

Mahindra Thar OG platform and suspension

The Mahindra Thar OG is underpinned by the M_Glyde 4G platform with higher stiffness to deliver more confident driving both on road and off road. The frame is now wider and the suspension consists of wishbones up front and a rear Pentalink rear which incorporates a Watts link (similar to what’s seen in the Thar Roxx) and the vehicle also makes use of DAVINCI damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD, first for a body-on-frame vehicle). The hydraulic steering has now been replaced with an electric power steering which has been moved closer to the wheel centre.

Mahindra Thar OG powertrains

With the update, the Thar OG gets more power and torque than its predecessor at 160bhp of power and 330Nm of torque for the mStallion petrol engine while the diesel engine produces 150bhp of power and 330Nm of torque. The more affordable 1.5-litre diesel engine that powers the Thar RWD continues to have its outputs unchanged at 117bhp and 300Nm. A big change however is the larger diesel engine with RWD now comes with the option of an automatic transmission.

Mahindra Thar OG design and interiors

In terms of design updates, the Thar OG gets a new grille and new LED headlamps similar to the Thar Roxx with signature C-shaped DRLs. The car also gets a new rugged front and rear bumpers with a wider track (courtesy of a wider frame), 19-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lamps with cornering lamps and new LED taillamps. The car also gets truffle brown leatherette seats. It also gets a second-row armrest with a cupholder and two new colour options – Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue along with the six existing colors. In terms of safety, you get 6 airbags, including 4 first-in-segment Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS) airbags for front and rear passenger protection. All 4 disc brakes with a comprehensive ESP 9.3 suite and front parking sensors are also present on the Thar OG.

Mahindra Thar OG prices

Prices for the Thar OG start from ₹10.32 lakh, going up to ₹18.99 lakh for the top-spec 4x4 ZXT petrol automatic variant. These are introductory prices for the Thar OG valid for deliveries until November 30, 2026.
