Mahindra has launched the all-new Vision S and Vision X concepts today, based on the all-new NU.IQ platform. These concept cars have innovative designs and first-in-segment features. The NU.IQ skateboard platform is flexible and only top hats need to be changed for different cars. Two 4.3-m SUVs, and two sub-4m SUVs have been unveiled today based on this platform. The Vision S and Vision X will be sub-4m SUVs. The cars are set to launch in 2027.

Mahindra Vision S

The Mahindra Vision S concept is a bold take on the future of compact SUVs, designed at Mahindra Research Valley and slated for production in 2027. The Vision S focuses on a tall driving position, and gets a high ground clearance. with a 277mm ground clearance — which is a segment-first. Mr. Velusamy R, President of Automotive Technology & Product Development at Mahindra, compares the driving position of this car to “standing on the shoulders of my grandfather”. Despite sitting in the compact segment, Mahindra insists its ‘business class’ in terms of comfort and features. Built on a 2665mm wheelbase with a flat floor and a capacious 644-litre boot, it offers impressive space and versatility. Off-road capability is backed by well-engineered approach and departure angles, while the design blends rugged SUV proportions with modern Mahindra styling cues. The Vision S also sports Mahindra’s twin peaks logo. You get LED headlamps, tail lamps, and LED DRLs on the grille. There are flush door handles, and digital ORVMs. The rear-end looks similar to the Land Rover Defender, more like a mini-version of it, with a ladder, box, roof rack, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Mahindra Vision X

Alongside the Vision S, Mahindra also showcased the Vision X — a sportier, more lifestyle-oriented interpretation of the same architecture. It shares the elevated seating, roomy cabin, and flat floor but adds a sleeker profile and urban-focused design language. Variable steering ratio technology gives it a tight 10.5-metre turning circle, while the intelligent packaging means sub-4-metre versions can still offer the same wheelbase (2665mm) and cabin room. With strong, stiff body construction using assistant metric ribs and the Uni-ring side structure, the Vision X promises both driving confidence and top-tier safety credentials. On the design front, you get LED headlamps and tail lamps, and the Mahindra twin peaks logo sits on the bonnet. At the rear, you get two shark fin antennas, and an LED lightbar. Overall, the Vision X looks like a baby version of the Aston Martin DBX 707. The cabin gets two screens – one for the cluster and one for the info system (sizes aren’t available yet), with an option of adding two more screens for the rear passengers. You also get flush door handles and digital ORVMs.

Mahindra’s NU.IQ platform

Underpinning both Vision S and Vision X is Mahindra’s flexible new architecture, capable of accommodating multiple ‘top hats’ while retaining core dimensions and strengths. It’s engineered for the lowest mass-to-volume ratio in its class, and incorporates world-first features like a 5-link rear suspension in the compact segment and the DAVINCI damper system to counter high centre of gravity, setting a new benchmark for ride and handling. With 101 patents filed, it targets 5-star ratings in ENCAP, ANCAP, and GNCAP tests. Intelligent engineering, high stiffness, and future-ready adaptability make this a platform designed to answer Mahindra’s own question at the start of the design process: “Can new be iconic?”
