Maruti Suzuki has crossed 50,000 cumulative EV exports from India, just over a year after the first shipments left the country in August 2025. The company announced the milestone and says it has been India’s No. 1 EV exporter since the start. Here is a closer look at the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara export story.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara export milestone

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara export journey began in August 2025, when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the start of production at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, for sale in over 100 countries. Since then, global shipments of the Made in India EV have crossed 50,000 units. Maruti Suzuki was India’s No. 1 EV exporter in FY2025-26, according to SIAM, and it held that position from April to September of FY2026-27. In that period, it accounted for nearly 93 per cent of India’s passenger vehicle EV exports. Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said, “This milestone reflects India’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and its growing competitiveness.”

Maruti Suzuki e VITARA export markets

Europe was the first market to receive the vehicle, and it remains the largest export destination. The EVs now ship to nearly 50 countries, including the U.K., Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland. The EV adds to a bigger export business. Maruti Suzuki has been India’s No. 1 passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years, and it holds over 50 per cent of India’s passenger vehicle exports in April to September 2026. It currently sends 16 models to nearly 120 countries.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and the Hansalpur plant

The Hansalpur facility is the exclusive manufacturing base for Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle. It has recently expanded to an annual production capacity of 1 million vehicles, and it is the first Suzuki plant anywhere in the world to reach that figure at a single location. Cumulative investment stands at ₹25,288.7 crore, and the plant accounted for nearly half of Maruti Suzuki’s overseas shipments in FY2025-26.
