Meet the Mercedes-AMG G 63’s Brabus 800 Cabrio

A military background, boxy design, and supercar-level performance- a lot comes to mind when thinking about the Mercedes-AMG G 63. But the sky is the limit when it comes to imagination, and Brabus has once again proved it with the 800 Cabrio.

Manufactured with the soul of the G 63 in mind, the 800 Cabrio, however, is different in almost every single aspect. The same V8 engine is now modified to produce even more power and torque, and the design is another story in itself. Here’s the Brabus 800 Cabrio in detail.

The Brabus 800 Cabrio performance

The Brabus 800 has the same 4-litre V8 as the AMG G 63, but it has been modified with the use of two specially developed Brabus turbochargers, resulting in a total output of 789bhp and 1,000Nm. For comparison, the G 63 produces 576bhp and 850Nm. The twin-turbo V8 is paired with a nine-speed Speedshift TCT automatic transmission, which comes with shifter paddles behind the steering.

The Brabus 800 Cabrio design and exterior

The exterior of the 800 Cabrio is dominated by carbonfibre. As per Brabus, over 500 components were newly developed for the G 63 Cabrio, apart from just equipping it with a convertible roof. The two-piece soft-top roof mechanism takes just 20 seconds to open and close at the push of a button. Furthermore, the rear doors open up to 90 degrees through the use of special hinges. The front fascia features enlarged air intakes and a front spoiler, which once again features prominent use of carbonfibre. On the side, the 800 Cabrio gets illuminated fenders, and the running boards light up when the SUV is unlocked. Recessed Brabus lettering on the back completes the full carbon rear fascia.

It also features 24-inch Monoblock ZM wheels and Brabus Sport springs with height adjustment. Another thing that makes the Brabus 600 Cabrio unique is the use of the Brabus valve-controlled exhaust system. This allows for active sound management, with a choice between a subtle engine sound and performance output.

The Brabus 800 Cabrio interiors

The interior of the Cabrio has been finished in leather with the embossed Brabus logo on the seats. It also features Brabus Carbon shifting paddles and a Brabus Carbon steering wheel clasp. Most of the interior, including the vehicle floor, back panel of the front seats, steering wheel, steering wheel airbag, and even the trunk, has been finished and quilted in leather, giving a premium finish to the interior.

The Brabus 800 Cabrio has been modified from the Mercedes-AMG G 63, but considering its performance and overall looks, it is easy to say that it only carries forward the soul of the G 63, with the entirety of the rest being modified extensively. Only 50 units of this exclusive SUV shall be produced.
