MG has unveiled the ADAPT platform for its future EVs, hybrids and PHEV vehicles
JSW MG Motor India has provided us with a first look at its new platform which is named ADAPT, and this platform will be the base on which the carmaker’s future products will be based. The name ADAPT is an acronym for Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology, and this platform is a NEV or New Energy Vehicle Architecture. The ADAPT platform will underpin MG’s future products with a plug-in hybrid or PHEV powertrain, strong-hybrids, range-extender hybrids as well as pure EV models.
MG ADAPT platform
The MG ADAPT platform integrates a dedicated hybrid engine, battery system, a first-in-India 10-in-1 electric drive unit and the world’s first electromagnetic dedicated hybrid transmission, with these components being controlled by an energy management system which analyses driving conditions and chooses between the four drive modes for maximum efficiency – Pure Electric Drive for silent and responsive driving, Series Hybrid Drive where the engine functions as a generator, sending power to an electric motor which drives the wheels, Parallel Hybrid Drive where the engine and motor work together to maximise performance, and Engine Direct Drive for efficient highway cruising.
The ADAPT platform is a modular architecture which will also support range extender electric vehicles where a petrol engine acts solely as the generator to recharge the battery when required. MG has also revealed that it will be debuting an EV and a PHEV product based on the ADAPT platform in FY2026-27. However it is unlikely that this platform will support the ICE-powered vehicles in MG's existing model line-up.
