Nissan has finally pulled the sheets off the Tekton in India, marking the brand’s return to the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. Priced from ₹10.49 lakh to ₹18.59 lakh, the Tekton shares its platform and underpinnings with the Renault Duster but with its very own personality.

“We are building a stronger and more competitive Nissan in India. As we continue to strengthen our SUV-led portfolio and sharpen our market focus, the world premiere of the all-new Nissan Tekton reflects our ambition to combine global product strength with deep local relevance,” said Guillaume Cartier, Chief Performance Officer, Nissan.

Nissan Tekton pricing and rivals

With introductory pricing starting from ₹10.49 lakh, the Nissan Tekton undercuts all of its rivals, positioning itself as the most affordable entry point into the segment. Despite that, it will have its work cut out, facing established rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. Not to mention its cousin, the Renault Duster itself.

Nissan Tekton styling

The Tekton’s exterior design is influenced by the brand’s flagship SUV, the Patrol. The front end features a connected LED light bar flanked by the large LED headlights and a muscular bonnet with Tekton lettering. The front end is complemented by the chrome Nissan logo, silver skid plate and LED fog lamps integrated into the bumper. From the side, it maintains a simple but rugged side profile with its boxy shape, silver roof rails, and integrated rear door handles. The rear features a full-width LED light bar, squared-off taillights, and a roof-mounted spoiler. The car sits on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Nissan Tekton interior

The cabin features a modern design with a dual-tone interior. The steering wheel and piano black inserts are borrowed from the Duster, along with other elements. The cabin features dual-zone climate control with physical switches, a 6-speaker sound system, wireless charging with MagSafe support, a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting. The infotainment system features a 10.1-inch touchscreen with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster. All variants of the Tekton feature keyless entry and push-button start/stop.

Nissan Tekton engine and powertrain

The Tekton shares its engine and powertrain options with the Renault Duster. At launch, two engine options are offered: a 1litre turbo-petrol T160 engine that puts out 99bhp and 166Nm paired to a 6-speed manual transmission exclusively, with no automatic options available, and a 1.3litre turbo-petrol engine T280 that puts out 161bhp and 280Nm, and can be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT transmission with a wet clutch. The Tekton is front-wheel drive only and noticeably, at launch omits the Duster’s 1.8litre hybrid powertrain at launch.

Nissan Tekton 5-star safety rating

The Tekton has also received a 5-star safety rating from BNCAP with an Adult Protection Score of 30.49 out of 32 and a Child Protection Score of 45 out of 49. The evaluation is based on the testing of the Renault Duster, which makes the Tekton its corporate twin since the two are built on the same platform.

As a result, the Tekton too features a construction with 62 per cent high tensile steel and even stronger ultra-high tensile steel in the A and B pillars to ensure occupant safety. Add to this six airbags, ADAS and 360-degree Parking Assist, and you’re looking at a package that will keep you safe in nearly all conditions.

MyNISSAN App in the Nissan Tekton

The Tekton gets advanced connected experiences with built-in Google and more than 55 features that can be accessed via the MyNISSAN app. Owners will get native access to Google Maps, Assistant and Play, along with 200 other apps. Customers will also be able to sign in to their Google account using this app for a more personalised experience.

With deliveries starting from the 20th of July, the Tekton isn’t just another launch for Nissan in India. It's the brand's statement of intent to rebuild its story here.
