Tata Motors is marking the end of this year on a high, with the Indian carmaker having crossed the milestone of 2,50,000 EV sales in India. Tata Motors claims that it currently commands a 66 per cent market share of all EVs sold to date in India, and it also revealed that the Tata Nexon EV has become the country’s first EV to surpass a cumulative sales figure of 1 lakh units. The homegrown automaker also announced its upcoming launches – the Tata Sierra EV, the new Tata Punch EV and the Tata Avinya range – which will be introduced in the calendar year 2026. Tata Motors will also introduce three new EV nameplates as well as updates and product refreshes to its EV line-up by FY2030. Here’s a closer look at Tata Motors’ EV roadmap for the future.

Tata Motors will be launching the electric version of its newly-launched Sierra SUV in 2026, and we expect the SUV to get tweaks to the design to differentiate it from the ICE-powered models. It will likely be offered with both a single-motor and a dual-motor setup, the later endowing the Sierra EV with all-wheel-drive.

At a press event, Tata Motors confirmed that Avinya will be an independent brand, which would likely feature a hybrid approach with its sales network – with a partly digital, partly physical presence.

10 lakh charging points by 2030

The carmaker also has big ambitions when it comes to scaling up its charging network and infrastructure, such as 4 lakh charging points by 2027, including over 30,000 public fast chargers, through the Tata.ev Open Collaboration network. By 2030, Tata Motors aims to have 10 lakh charging points and 1 lakh public charge points. The next big leap for the carmaker is to source locally-produced HV battery cells from Agratas – the battery business within the Tata Group – and its upcoming gigafactory in Sanand.

Commenting on the sales milestone, Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said, “Crossing 250,000 EV sales reflects how electric mobility is fast becoming part of everyday Indian life. Our customers are driving more, travelling farther, and increasingly trusting EVs as their only cars. Our EV journey which began in 2018, was never about leading alone but about building the ecosystem to enable India’s transition to clean mobility. This progress is the outcome of the government’s forward-thinking policies, the steadfast support of our supplier partners and charging infrastructure providers and above all, the trust and enthusiasm of TATA.ev customers. As EV adoption accelerates, our commitment remains clear: to mainstream electric mobility by making it accessible across segments, strengthening the ecosystem, and investing in India-first technology and localisation. This is how we will continue to lead India’s growing EV market.”
