There was an uproar when the Skoda Kodiaq was launched. “It doesn’t have ADAS”, said many journalists and the comments on our social media. It seems Skoda has heard us all. Kodiaq now has integrated ADAS with six different driver assistance systems in the car.
Skoda Kodiaq now with ADAS
The list starts with the Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist with warning and braking reaction, Lane Assist - lane keeping system, Side Assist - Blind spot detection and lane change system, Rear Traffic Alert and Exit Warning system. While the base ‘Lounge’ variant misses out on ADAS, the other two ‘Sportline’ and ‘Selection L&K’ get it; making ADAS available with two out of three variants.
Skoda Kodiaq engine and performance
Just in case you forgot, the Skoda Kodiaq packs an 201bhp, 320Nm EA888 petrol engine, paired with a DSG gearbox and standard Haldex AWD. It's quick, takes around 8 seconds for 0-100kmph. Its smooth, revs quickly, and great for overtakes in Comfort or Sport modes, with a claimed 14.86kmpl ARAI efficiency, but a real world efficiency can be different, depending on your driving. Ride comfort is typical of a Kodiaq, soaking up bumps and bad roads at low and high speeds while staying stable for most part. Handling has definitely taken a hit due to the omission of DCC (from the previous gen), but drive like a normal human and you will be fine.
Skoda Kodiaq features and technology
Other than the ADAS, the car has not received any additions or omissions in its feature list. Which is a good thing as the car is well equipped with tech features and practicalities like two wireless chargers, expandable cupholders, and extra storage spots, a 10.25-inch driver display and 13-inch infotainment. L&K seats offer heating, ventilation, cooling, and massage, which is AGR certified (Aktion Gesunder Rucken - it is a German seal of approval for products that promote spinal health and ergonomics); Sportline has firmer ones without those extras. Other features also include 13-speaker Canton sound with subwoofer, electric seats, panoramic sunroof, and clever storage. Physical dials handle key tasks like climate, seats, and more with center one customizable for fan, modes, etc.
Even without ADAS, the Kodiaq scored 5-stars in Euro NCAP. Now with ADAS, the car has collision prevention technology, making it even safer.
