Updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class gets its biggest technical upgrade yet
The comprehensively updated C-Class gains an illuminated grille, MB.OS, more advanced driver assistance and a 395PS plug-in-hybrid powertrain

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the comprehensively updated C-Class sedan and estate, describing it as the most extensive technical upgrade in the nameplate’s history. The changes encompass exterior design, cabin technology, powertrains, suspension and driver-assistance systems. The global engine line-up continues to include petrol, diesel and plug-in-hybrid options, while the cabin gains the latest MB.OS-based infotainment architecture.
Mercedes-Benz will open order books in Germany on August 18, with prices beginning at €48,844 including taxes for the C 200 sedan. India launch details have not yet been announced.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class exterior
The most prominent exterior change is the redesigned, more upright grille. It features a chrome frame with an illuminated LED surround and incorporates a repeating three-pointed-star pattern. An illuminated central star will also be available in selected markets. The headlights now feature double-star daytime-running lights, while the sedan receives star-shaped lighting elements at the rear. Mercedes-Benz has also redesigned both bumpers and introduced new alloy-wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
For the first time, the C-Class will be available with an AMG Line Plus package. It adds gloss-black exterior elements, a rear spoiler, the Night Package, sports seats with red stitching and red seatbelts.
Lavender Silver metallic and Moody Sky Grey metallic have been added to the exterior colour palette.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class interior and features
The basic cabin architecture remains familiar, including the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen. The major development is underneath these displays: the C-Class now runs Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS.
Its fourth-generation MBUX Virtual Assistant uses technology from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini. Mercedes says this multi-agent system can conduct complex conversations, retain short-term context and answer general-knowledge and navigation-related questions.
Navigation is now based on Google Maps and incorporates Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent. MBUX Surround Navigation can use a three-dimensional representation of the car’s surroundings, while augmented-reality navigation technology previously offered in the S-Class and EQS will also be available.
The redesigned steering wheel restores physical rollers for volume adjustment and rocker switches for the cruise-control and DISTRONIC systems.
Optional equipment includes multicontour massage seats, the AIR-BALANCE fragrance and air-filtration package and an upgraded Burmester 3D surround-sound system. The latter uses 15 speakers and a 710W amplifier, supports Dolby Atmos and can automatically adjust the audio focus according to which seats are occupied.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class engine specifications
The regular petrol and diesel engines receive a second-generation integrated starter-generator. The 48V system can contribute up to 17kW and 205Nm while enabling engine-off coasting, brake-energy recuperation and smoother start-stop operation.
The 2-litre, four-cylinder M254 EVO petrol engine also gains an electrically powered auxiliary compressor. This can build boost at low engine speeds before the conventional turbocharger responds, reducing lag during standing starts, corner exits and overtaking. Three petrol states of tune will be offered globally:
C 200: 177PS and 270Nm
C 250: 218PS and 320Nm
C 300: 258PS and 400Nm
The 2-litre OM654 EVO diesel will be available with either 163PS or 200PS. It uses a variable-geometry turbocharger and 2,200-bar common-rail fuel injection, and is compatible with HVO100, B10 and B20 biofuels. All the combustion engines have been prepared for the forthcoming Euro 7 emission requirements.
Mercedes-Benz says it has retuned the suspension to reduce body movement and make the C-Class more responsive without compromising its long-distance comfort. The chassis continues to use a four-link front axle and five-link rear axle.
Optional rear-wheel steering can turn the rear wheels through 2.5 degrees. At speeds below 100kmph, they turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, reducing the turning circle by 43cm to 10.64 metres. Above 100kmph, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels to improve high-speed stability. The sedan has a claimed drag coefficient starting at 0.24Cd, while the estate begins at 0.26Cd.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class MB.DRIVE assistance systems
Depending on its specification, the new C-Class can be equipped with up to 10 cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors. MB.DRIVE ASSIST can perform an assisted lane change after the driver taps the indicator. MB.DRIVE ASSIST PLUS can also assist with braking for traffic lights and stop signs. MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO is designed to provide more comprehensive point-to-point assistance, although its initial launch is limited to China.
The available parking systems can identify spaces and assist with entering and leaving them. A new Reversing Function can also automatically retrace part of the car’s recently travelled route under appropriate conditions.
The optional DIGITAL LIGHT system receives micro-LED technology. Mercedes-Benz claims it increases the high-resolution illumination area by approximately 40 per cent while consuming up to 50 per cent less energy than the previous system.
Globally it will also be available as a shooting brake/estate. Whether it will come to our shores or not remains to be seen.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class India launch
Mercedes-Benz has not announced an India launch date, local powertrain range or pricing for the updated C-Class. The current announcement applies to the global model, and several features described by Mercedes-Benz are market- and variant-dependent.
