Second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc unveiled globally
The new generation of the Volkswagen T-Roc will be launched with mild-hybrid powertrains
Volkswagen has globally unveiled the next generation of the Volkswagen T-Roc SUV, and it boasts a new design, a newly-designed interior and driving assistance systems. The SUV will be launching in global markets in November, and it will offer two mild-hybrid powertrains at the time of launch.

Volkswagen T-Roc styling
The new Volkswagen T-Roc looks vastly different from the outgoing generation, and the design of the SUV is now in line with other Volkswagen SUVs like the Tiguan. The overall length of the SUV has increased by 12cm and it continues to sport the coupe-like roofline towards the rear. You get new LED headlamps on the T-Roc as standard, while the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights are available as an option, connected to the illuminated VW logo by a light strip. You also get a connected LED tail lamp at the rear of the T-Roc, with a red illuminated Volkswagen logo.

Volkswagen T-Roc interior
Step inside the new T-Roc and it gets a new design for the interior layout. The dash panel is upholstered in fabric and it also gets ambient lighting. In terms of equipment, the T-Roc gets numerous features from the Tiguan and the Tayron, such as a ‘driving experience control’ knob in the centre console which can be used to select the driving profiles, adjust the volume and so on. A new feature on the T-Roc is the optional head-up display, and the new T-Roc is claimed to be more spacious than the outgoing model, thanks to the overall length of the SUV now being increased by 12cm. The T-Roc gets a 13-inch infotainment screen and it is also equipped with with a 14-way electrically adjustable seat with a massage function. The boot space has also gone up by 30-litres, to 475-litres.

Volkswagen T-Roc platform and tech
The T-Roc is based on the MQB Evo platform, and this is the third SUV from Volkswagen to be based on the latest version of the modular platform, following the current-gen Tiguan and the Tayron. Being based on this platform, the T-Roc is now equipped with more tech, such as Travel Assist which supports automatic lane changes. The SUV is also equipped with Park Assist Pro, which uses a memory function to enable fully automatic parking for distances of up to 50 metres, and it allows a smartphone to be used to drive the vehicle in and out of parking spaces.
Volkswagen T-Roc engine
The T-Roc comes with mild-hybrid powertrains and at the time of launch, the SUV will be offered with two 48V mild-hybrid powertrains which consist of a 1.5-litre eTSI engine. This powertrain will be available in two states of tune – with 114bhp and 147bhp of power – and these will be followed by two strong-hybrid powertrains. All of these are front-wheel-drive powertrains, but just like the older T-Roc, the SUV will also be offered with 4MOTION all-wheel-drive and the 2-litre TSI engine later down the line. These powertrains will be mated to a 7-speed DSG, and a T-Roc R will also be available in the future as the most powerful variant.

Volkswagen T-Roc price
Pre-sales for this new-gen T-Roc have started in Germany and the market launch for the SUV is scheduled to take place in November. Prices for the SUV start from ₹31.45 lakh (30,845 euros) in Germany for the 1.5 eTSI powertrain in its lower state of tune. Volkswagen had brought the earlier generation of the T-Roc to India in limited numbers, but it remains to be seen whether the new generation of the T-Roc will be making its way to the Indian market.
