Volkswagen Tayron R-line assembly begins in India
Volkswagen India has officially commenced local production of the Tayron R-Line SUV at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) manufacturing plant in Maharashtra

The Tayron R-Line enters the market as Volkswagen’s most premium SUV offering in India, positioned above the Tiguan R-Line and targeting buyers seeking a larger, more luxurious, and practical SUV with three rows of seating. The local assembly strategy is expected to help keep pricing competitive in a segment dominated by well-established rivals.
Volkswagen Tayron R-line exterior
The Tayron R-Line has a sportier look than the standard model, with more aggressive front and rear bumpers and 19-inch alloy wheels that give it a stronger stance. R-Line badges set it apart, while the LED headlamps and tail-lamps add a sharp finish to the overall design.

Inside, the Tayron R-Line offers a plush, technology-focused cabin, also aimed at prioritising comfort and convenience. The dashboard is dominated by a large 15-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system angled towards the driver, paired with a fully digital instrument cluster. Front occupants benefit from ventilated leatherette seats with massage functions, while the panoramic sunroof should enhance the sense of space and airiness inside the cabin.
It gets customisable ambient lighting with multiple colour options for the interior, and practicality remains a strong point with a generous boot space of up to 850-litres when the third row seats are folded down.
Volkswagen Tayron R-line chassis and performance
Built on Volkswagen’s MQB EVO architecture – a platform shared with models such as the Tiguan R-Line – the Tayron R-Line benefits from an extended wheelbase of 2,789mm, around 109mm longer than the Tiguan, enabling generous cabin space and true seven-seat capability.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine that delivers a strong mix of performance and everyday usability. This engine produces 201bhp and 320Nm of torque, promising brisk acceleration and effortless cruising. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Tayron R-line rivals
With production now underway, Volkswagen is gearing up for an official India market launch in Q1 2026. In India, the Tayron R-Line will take on premium three-row SUV rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster, and Jeep Meridian.
