Xiaomi EV unveils SkyNomad: a hybrid SUV that transforms around you

Xiaomi EV has officially expanded its vehicle lineup with the new hybrid SkyNomad series. An intelligent large family SUV series designed around flexibility through its reconfigurable cabin. The SkyNomad puts the passenger experience and everyday usability at the centre of its design philosophy.

What is the SkyNomad

The SkyNomad is Xiaomi’s hybrid SUV designed from the ground up with a focus on making the cabin completely configurable. Making the car like a living room on wheels, the user can choose between being a parked lounge and being ready for a weekend trip through the long-rail seating and its completely flat floor. The 180-degree rotating seats help create a more social atmosphere in the cabin, similar to the Mercedes V-Class and Kia EV9.

What We Know

Unlike its siblings, the SkyNomad is not going to be a purely electric vehicle and will instead feature a 1.5litre turbo-charged engine that will act as a generator for the 70kWh battery pack. The car is set to be an AWD with a single electric motor at both the front and rear axles. Xiaomi claims this configuration gives the SkyNomad an electric-only range of 400 to 500km and a combined range of around 1500km. The first model, the N90 is set to have a wheelbase of 3.1metres and an overall length of 5.3metres.

Xiaomi’s Vision

This shift in philosophy was guided by the fact that commute times are now longer, and users tend to use their car a lot more than ever before, making it essentially another home. Due to the Kunlun architecture and the long track seating, the cabin can transform into a workspace or a lounge.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi SkyNomad is a product that’s limited to the Chinese domestic market and is unlikely to ever make it to Indian shores. In China, it is expected to cost anywhere between INR 28.06 lakh (US$ 29,400) and INR 63.14 lakh (US$ 66,000), depending on variant, specificiations and features opted for. Commercial launch is expected later this month, with deliveries expected in August.
