Horsepower heavy cars performing high octane stunts – its pure car porn for petrolheads. The Fast and Furious saga has satiated our hunger for thrilling car action for two decades. Since 2001, there have been eight films in the franchise along with two spinoffs, Hobbs and Shaw and Tokyo Drift. F9 The Fast Saga was scheduled to hit theatres in May 2020 but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the date has been pushed to April 2021. However, the trailer was out last month itself and here’s a list of cars and bikes starring in the thriller.
Protagonist Dominic Toretto loves American muscle. Some of the mean machines he’s driven include the 1970 Dodge Charger, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT and his cameo in the 1970 Plymouth Road Runner. This time, Dom’s ride is the 707hp Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody. It produces 882Nm of torque and it can sprint from 0 to 96kmph in just 3.6 seconds. It’s surely one of the mean-looking cars globally. And hold on, what is it with super saloons having such long names?
The Fast and Furious Saga is popular for showcasing crazy modifications done to performance cars. This time though, it looks like one car will break all hell lose. Driven by Roman Pierce, this Pontiac Fiero has a rocket strapped on top. In the trailer, it appears like the modifications were done by Earl, one of Han’s friends and crew members who tunes race cars. All the best, Roman.
Ford Mustangs are a common sight in the Fast and Furious franchise and this time it will be piloted by ex WWE and wrestling legend, John Cena, who plays the role of Jakob, Dom’s brother. The Mustang gets a 5.2-litre V8 heart that produces 526hp and 582Nm of torque. It’s a classic combination of a front engined and rear wheel drive set-up with a 6-speed manual transmission. Have fun, Jakob.
Han died in Tokyo Drift while being chased by D.K. when his Mazda RX-7 was toppled. Well, he’s back in the series this time and his ride is the 2020 Toyota GR Supra. The Supra borrows the 3-litre twin-scroll turbocharged inline-six from the BMW Z4, pumping out 335hp and 495Nm of torque. 0-100kmph in just 4.1 seconds. Another front engined rear wheel drive masterpiece.
Dom shares his passion for cars with lady love Letty, who’s also a hardcore petrolhead. This time however, she shows her adventurous side astride the Yamaha YZ450F motocross bike. Mounted onto its aluminium frame is a 449cc liquid cooled engine with four titanium valves, paired to a five-speed wet clutch transmission. Helping it jump around crests and rocks is long travel KYB suspension and Dunlop MX33 tyres.
Letty Ortiz seems to love brawny American cruisers as much as she loves Japanese motocross bikes. In one scene in the trailer, Letty is also seen astride a Harley-Davidson Iron 883. The 256kg cruiser is powered by an 883cc air-cooled engine and 70Nm of torque at 3500rpm. Design highlights on this beauty include an old-school drag-style handlebar, 9-spoke machine-cut alloys and a low seat height of just 760mm.
