Ferrari has launched the Portofino in India at Rs 3.5 crore (ex-showroom, India). The Portofino is the most affordable sports car from Ferrari and it is the successor to the California, which was the company’s best-selling model and accounted for 30 per cent of its annual volumes.
Powering the Portofino is the 3.9-litre V8 engine, from the California T, but changes have been made, like the new pistons and connecting rods to handle the increased cylinder pressures (by 10 per cent). As a result, the power and torque figures have gone up by 38bhp and 5Nm. The car crosses the 100kmph barrier in 3.5 seconds with 200kmph taking 10.8 seconds and the 1664kg sports car has a top speed north of 320kmph. The wheelbase and all other dimensions are unchanged, but it loses 80kg. Torsional stiffness is also up by 35 per cent. The roof goes down in 14 seconds at speeds up to 40kmph.
